Guest guest
What is given below is what I had made up for me in France. It is Lugol's 5 percent solution. Yours is not the same proportion. Fibrojay A History of Lugol's Lugol's Iodine (also called " Lugol's solution " ) was first developed by the French physician, Lugol, in 1829. It is a transparent brown liquid consisting of 10 parts potassium iodide (KI) to 5 parts iodine to 85 parts of (distilled) water. > > Hi Y'all, I was wondering if anyone could help me .... > I just received my order from Alpha Omega Labs, 15% Lugol's solution ....while on their website they refer to the IODINE solutions componenets as: > 15% Lugol's, to 4,000 ml. of distilled water we dissolve 480 gm. of KI and 240 gm. of iodine crystal. > > HOWEVER on the 15%bottle it says it says it contains: > Potassium Iodide & Iodide crystals?!?!?! Guest guest
i see no discrepancy from what you describe. KI = potassium iodide I = iodine classic lugol's formula is, by weight (pure water weighs 1 gram per 1 milliliter or cc): 5% iodine 10% potassium iodide look again, it probably doesn't say iodide crystals, but iodine crystals. they might've screwed up printing the label? elemental comes as colored crystals. potasium iodide is a white crystalline powder (i think). it's probably just fine. you can't even buy lugols in that concentration in the usa anymore except for ridiculous $ in one oz bottles, one bottle per transaction. > Alpha Omega Labs lugol's solution > > Hi Y'all, I was wondering if anyone could help me .... > I just received my order from Alpha Omega Labs, 15% Lugol's > solution ....while on their website they refer to the IODINE > solutions componenets as: > 15% Lugol's, to 4,000 ml. of distilled water we dissolve 480 > gm. of KI and 240 gm. of iodine crystal. > > HOWEVER on the 15%bottle it says it says it contains: > Potassium Iodide & Iodide crystals?!?!?! Guest guest
I plan on making my own Lugol’s – there’s a video on YouTube on how to do it (it’s quite simple). I purchased the two ingredients from eBay…they’re a bit expensive: however, with the amount of Lugol’s I’ll be able to make from it, it will wind up being WAY cheaper than the $8 an ounce (dropper sized bottle) that I paid. Do look it up though as you’re not supposed to touch one of the ingredients….and I believe you use distilled water (haven’t needed to make it yet but I have the ingredients J) From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of bob Larson Sent: Tuesday, May 26, 2009 7:10 PM iodine Subject: RE: Alpha Omega Labs lugol's solution i see no discrepancy from what you describe. Guest guest
distilled water for sure. i'd wear gloves and not touch either ingredient. $8 for a 1oz bottle of lugols is about as cheap as i've seen it. that's without the shipping which is at least another $5. Guest guest
Problem: How many mg/drop (metric) for 240g I + 480g KI in 4000 ml? Molecular wt. of potassium (KI) = 39 Molecular wt. of iodine (I = 126.9 Total molecular wt. = 165 Proportion of I by wt. = 126.9/165 = .769 Therefore, [(240000 mg + (.769 x 480000 mg)]/4000 ml = 152.28 mg/ml Each metric drop would represent: 152.28 mg/ml x 1 tsp./100 drops x 4.93 ml/tsp = 7.5 mg/drop (metric) Bear in mind that a U.S. dropper will produce 76 drops per teaspoon, giving a slightly different value. You can easily check the type of dropper you have by counting how many drops there are in a teaspoon, and modifying the above equation accordingly. In the standard 5% Lugol's solution equation: 5g + 10g 235g + 470g ------------- = ------------------- 85ml 4000ml The right hand side shows the approximate values for the Alpha Omega equation, taken simply by multiplying each term the left equation by 4000/85. The standard equation defines the % iodine in terms of the free iodine crystal, namely 5 parts (5% normal solution). Alpha Omega defines the % iodine in terms of the sum of the free iodine crystal plus that amount of iodine contained in the potassium iodide, giving a 15.2% normal solution (.152g/ml). Simply stated, the 15% Alpha Omega Lugol's solution (at 7.5mg/metric drop) is approximately equivalent to standard 5% Lugol's solution (at 6.8mg/metric drop). For the user, the only thing that is important is the mg/drop. from Israel > > i see no discrepancy from what you describe. > > KI = potassium iodide > I = iodine > > classic lugol's formula is, by weight (pure water weighs 1 gram per 1 > milliliter or cc): > > 5% iodine > 10% potassium iodide > > look again, it probably doesn't say iodide crystals, but iodine crystals. > they might've screwed up printing the label? > elemental comes as colored crystals. potasium iodide is a white crystalline > powder (i think). > > it's probably just fine. you can't even buy lugols in that concentration in > the usa anymore except for ridiculous $ in one oz bottles, one bottle per > transaction. > > > Alpha Omega Labs lugol's solution > > > > Hi Y'all, I was wondering if anyone could help me .... > > I just received my order from Alpha Omega Labs, 15% Lugol's > > solution ....while on their website they refer to the IODINE > > solutions componenets as: > > 15% Lugol's, to 4,000 ml. of distilled water we dissolve 480 > > gm. of KI and 240 gm. of iodine crystal. > > > > HOWEVER on the 15%bottle it says it says it contains: > > Potassium Iodide & Iodide crystals?!?!?! Guest guest
Thanks for replying however-I'm looking right at the label it says : Ingredients: distilled water, potassium iodide & iodide crystals I've emailed them for an answer, but no reply ! another place: (http://www.altcancer.com/lugols.htm#history) it says: Supplement Facts: Serving size: one (1) drop. Servings per container: 5,676. Ingredients: Distilled water, potassium iodine, iodine crystal. Then it says: What Formula Do You Use? We are frequently asked what formula we us in making our Lugol's: 2% or 3% or 5%. To make the original version, we use what amounts to a 3% (2.91%) formula (iodine and iodine compound). The formula is simple: 80 gm. of potassium iodine (KI) is added to 4,000 ml of distilled water (roughly 4,000 gm). After fully dissolving, 40 gm. of iodine crystal is added. After the iodine crystal fully dissolves (which takes several hours), the product is packaged and stored. To make the newer 7% Lugol's version, using the same 4,000 ml. of distilled water, the amounts of iodine use are 200 gm. of KI, and 100 gm. of iodine crystal. For 15% Lugol's, to 4,000 ml. of distilled water we dissolve 480 gm. of KI and 240 gm. of iodine crystal. Lugol's Iodine has an optimal shelf-life of approximately one year. -- In iodine , " " <blacksands@...> wrote: > > I plan on making my own Lugol's - there's a video on YouTube on how to do it > (it's quite simple). > > > > I purchased the two ingredients from eBay.they're a bit expensive: however, > with the amount of Lugol's I'll be able to make from it, it will wind up > being WAY cheaper than the $8 an ounce (dropper sized bottle) that I paid. > > > > Do look it up though as you're not supposed to touch one of the > ingredients..and I believe you use distilled water (haven't needed to make > it yet but I have the ingredients :-)) > > > > > > > > _____ > > From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of > bob Larson > Sent: Tuesday, May 26, 2009 7:10 PM > iodine > Subject: RE: Alpha Omega Labs lugol's solution > > > > > > > > > i see no discrepancy from what you describe. Guest guest
Terry7, have you received a reply from Alpha Omega Labs yet regarding their 15% Lugol's solution ingredients? I'd like to know because I was looking at purchasing some of this, but not if the ingredients are not truly the Lugol's formula. Guest guest
If my chemistry theory is correct, I believe that the 5% iodide must be a spelling error as I don’t believe iodide can be found purely as iodide. It is either Iodine or combined into a compound to be an iodide eg Potassium Iodide etc. From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of salenbailey Sent: 01 June 2009 07:17 iodine Subject: Re: Alpha Omega Labs lugol's solution Have you received an answer yet? Guest guest
They emailed me back & said: Terry .... Please see earlier email ... the product contains potassium iodide and iodine crystals, using the products shown in the MSDS sheet. We apologize for the single-digit typo on the small label. To my knowledge, there is no such a thing as " iodide crystal " anyway. The term " iodide " indicates iodine bound to a metal salt. Guest guest
I did swich to Jcrows iodine and thought I would let every know my results. I started it on Monday and had a " metal headache " again which I had stopped having after the first 2 weeks or so on Alpha Omega Labs iodine. It also tastes very different, I would even say stronger(it is much harder for me to just drink). The taste difference might be due to the difference in drops (4 verses 20). Besides the taste and the headache for the day, I have had no other differences in reactions good or bad yet. I do have one question for you all. I can't go without my dose (50mg) for more than 6 hours or I will become cold all over again (hands, feet, and body). Have any of you experienced this? Do you have conculsions why? I have been unable to take the loading test as money has not become avaible yet (I almost had money this week but something else came up). I have been taking iodine for about 1 month now. Guest guest
No. I was thinking of what I read in Brownsteins book about how you would need more if you have any major illnesses, or are overweight, or live in a highly toxic area. I am overweight, and have hormone issues but no other major health issues yet. I would not mind going up that high but I would wish to at least have the loading test done first which hopefully will be within the next month. The other thing that the switch did as well was make my breasts sore again. Again, that happened when I first started to take the Alpha Omega Labs formula but ended at the end of two weeks of being on it. It is back with this change of companys. I don't understand why some of the " getting better " symptoms came back if I was maintaining the same dose with a different company. As I said before, that leads me to believe that this JCrows company is much better than Alpha Omega Labs. I will keep you updated. Thanks for the thoughts and if you think of anything else, please let me know. Thanks Amy > > > > I did swich to Jcrows iodine and thought I would let every know my results. Guest guest
I bought " Lugol's " from Alpha Omega about a year or so before the company was shut down by the FDA. It was my first experiment with Lugol's and I didn't think it was doing anything for me. Then I found this list and there was a brief discussion about it (probably 4-5 yrs ago). An active list member (long gone, it seems) told me to check the label. First thing I noticed that there was NO percentage given at all. This was before the FDA crackdown on the 5% and all Lugol's was 5, and sometimes 7% could be found. When I did switch to Lugol's from another source, I noticed the difference right away, It was DOING something! For this reason, I have a problem trusting Alpha Omega's products. Guest guest
Thank you for you input. It is always good to know you are not going insane. I truly do think that the product is different and JCrows works better and is more potent. I am not saying that JCrows is the best but I am saying that Alpha Omega Labs will not be receiving my business again. I should have trusted my husband in the first place. He did not want me to order from them in the first place which is not like him to be so vocal about something. Oh well, we live and we learn.
