Guest guest
, I would NEVER tell someone to go against the advice of their doctor, but I think it is a great idea to try to "treat" your levels with foods as opposed to supplements and medications. I am not a fan of fish oil, since most of it is made from farmed fish, which are pumped full of all sorts of medications, unnatural food sources, steroids, and colorants (colorants are added to fish feed to make the flesh APPEAR more appealing than it really is) Wild "caught" fish is usually just that...it is "caught" in the wild as spawn, but then farm raised-a very deceptive form of marketing. I think organic flax oil is a much better option, even better is to grind your own flax in the VM and add it to baked goods, muffins, etc. You are likely to find that as you incorporate more fruits and veggies into your diet, you will cut down on the foods causing your levels to go up in the first place. My mother is 76 and has taken cholesterol lowering medication for years...and STILL had high cholesterol. I asked her to try it my way, which is flax, fruits, and veggies, and her levels are the best they have ever been. She no longer takes medications for it. Everything good but Dr. wants me to work on lowering triglicerides. Good news is that the bad stuff was in the good range and she liked that I was doing natural stuff and was very interested in my Vitamix. However, she recommended me trying red yeast rice and I read about some side effects so want to try a more active food approach. I know about oat bran and fish oil, but any good vitamix recipes anyone can recommend? Thanks in advance.
Guest guest
Here is a link with information on how to lower triglycerides naturally http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art48761.asp which indicates that, surprisingly, it is refined carbs and sugars that are the biggest culprit (you probably already knew this). I thrive on a modified "cave man" diet which is good for lowering triglycerides and berries in your smoothies are the ideal fruit for this. I keep a bag of "triple berry mix" on hand at all times.
