Guest guest
Dale, I know that you are a fan of flaxseed oil and also very knowledgeable in the health arena. I have a question. I am following an eating protocol called the Zone, after the book of the same name by Barry Sears. It has already improved my near vision so much that I can read even the fine print in a newspaper without the glasses I have needed for the last 25 years. Before this change, without the glasses everything was a blurr. This eating protocol is actually an attempt to maximize the body's immune system and to prevent problems like cancer, heart disease and many others. Sears contends that flaxseed oil is heavy in an Omega-3 essential fatty acid called alpha linoleic acid (ALA) and that ALA inhibits the production of gamma linoleic acid, an essential element for the subsequent production of good eicosanoids, the key to good health. His protocol is keyed to enhancing good and preventing bad eicosaniods. Sears contends that only Omega-3 from the likes of salmon, tuna and sardines, which is an EFA called EPA, is of positive value because it promotes the production of good eicosanoids. Adequate amounts of EPA can also be gotten from fish oil such as cod liver oil although there are also smaller amounts in all cold water fish. My question is, what do you think about all that? Sears contends that his good/bad eicosanoid information is based on work by Nobel Prize winners. He also claims to have achieved exceptional results in improving the performance of sports professionals and near professionals and in improving the health of some very sick people. I much appreciate all your knowledgeable posts. Best regards, Ben
