The classification is as follows MAO inhibitors Irreversible nonselective MAOI Phenelzine (45-60mg/d) Isocarboxazid (10-30 mg/d) Tranylcypromine (10-20mg/d) Reversible inhibitor of MAO A (RIMA) Moclobemide MAO B inhibitor selegiline Adverse reactions CNS S/E Insomnia, tremors, hyperreflexia May activate psychosis Hypertensive crisis if taken with substances containing sympathetic amines (cheese, red wine, yeast extract, yogert, buttermilk, soyabeans, chocolates, figs, ripe bananas, meat extracts) Anticholinergic effects Potentiate the effects of TCA and SSRI Dr Ankush Gaikwad Second year resident, Department of Pharmacology GMC, Nagpur Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
