I have had ms diagnosed since 1984. Also had extensive dental work( removal

of amalgam), etc. Very few , if any, new cavities and no mention of ms ever

effecting teeth. However, This work did require a number of ( root canals)

and I am no very sure that they were a mistake and have caused significant

problems. Had I known then what I know now I would never of had them done.

Still considering having them removed.

Regards,

Tom

I don't believe I've ever had predisone. I have had lots of fillings and a couple of root canals though.

Re Reg's concern. My Sonicare toothbrush has been a lifesaver. I sometimes don't have the strength to brush them with a regular brush correctly.

Or perhaps the issue is presented backwards - maybe the poor dental health contributes to MS...

Hi everyone,I'm on another message board for MS only and the subject has come up that MS actually effects our teeth - like the quality, rotting etc. First I heard of it......One post even stated that a dental surgeon told this MSer that her teeth are not the best because of MS..Another woman has rotting under her fillings (mercury) and is wondering why....I have doubts on this one.....any opinions? I would think the medications we are subjected to were the culprits for dental damage, not the MS itself..input anyone?Friday

I think it is strange that my brother was born in 56, premature like me,and a lot of his class had very poor teeth.(coincidence?) I was born a year earlier and have good teeth yet I find that as time goes on it is becoming more and more like work to properly brush my teeth,Just standing long enuf at the mirror to shave is hell.

What I am getting at is that maybe it is the lack of energy (due to M.S.)that contributes to the bad teeth because of poor dental hygiene?

I know if I wasn't able to, or motivated to, brush my teeth they would probably all have fallen out by now.

Reg.

Congrats Reg!!

I bought a kiddie spin brush - add a little bubblegum

toothpaste and brushing my teeth has become fun. This I

learned from my 5 year old nephew.

One round only; I won't go there again. It did not change my oral health in any way. Just turned me into a psycho for a while.

Hi Friday

I don't beleive that MS'ers have bad teeth. I am 61 and have had MS for 27 years. I have all my own teeth, no crowns or root canals ever. I did have my mercury removed about 15 to 20 years ago. I never get cavities. I go to the dentist every 6 months for cleaning that is it. They are also very white.

CAn only tell you that I just finished mercury removal and several

of the old fillings had substantial decay under them. Haven't read

anything else about MS and teeth other than the mercury/metals

connection.

Best
