11% of CLL Patients Develop Second Malignancy

Risks of subsequent malignancies in <1 year was 1.25, 1-4 years,

1.25, 5-9 years, 1.14 and greater than 10 years 1.16.

Significantly increased risks were seen for Kaposi sarcoma, melanoma,

and cancers of the larynx and lung. Men, but not women, experienced

significantly increased risks of brain cancer (1.91). Women, but not

men, had significantly increased risks of stomach and bladder cancer

(1.76 and 1.52).

To help reduce these risks, patients are advised to avoid exposures

to carcinogens such as excessive sunlight and tobacco
