I got this from Karl's nhl-info list; it's originally from the

leukemia/lymphoma society.

Please please PLEASE!!! take a couple of minutes to go to this

website and send an e-mail, write a letter, and call your

congressmember's and senator's office to ask that funding be

increased for cancer research.

People, we are now going backwards on cancer funding!

I've sent my e-mail, I'm going to send a letter to each of the three

members that represent my district, and I will also call the local

offices of each of them.

Ask family members to write letters, too.

It is up to us!!! No one else will do what we can do!!!

Please don't put it off!!!

=Background Message from Leukemia and Lymphoma Society:

Increased Funding for Cancer Research in FY 2007

On February 6, 2006, President Bush released his proposed

federal budget for

Fiscal Year 2007 to Congress. Unfortunately, the

President's budget fails to

meet even the basic public health needs for cancer patients

and survivors as

well as for other Americans with chronic disease and

disability.

On the heels of approving the first cut to the National

Institutes of Health

(NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) funding since

1970 in FY 2006,

the President has proposed even deeper cuts to NCI in FY

2007.

As a result, the total number of NIH-funded research

project grants would

drop by 642, or 2 percent, below last year's level.

The President's budget would cut funding for 18 of the 19

institutes.

Funding for the National Cancer Institute would be cut by

$40 million.

The week of February 27-March 3, we need you to join the

millions of

Americans touched by cancer to tell your Representative and

Senators to

reject this misguided budget.
