Re: Please CALL Your House Member by the end of the day on Friday,

November 11:

Tell the House to Reject a Proposal That Would Cut Cancer Research

Funding by $100 million.

The amount of money allocated to the National Institutes of Health

for 2006 by the House of Representatives doesn't even cover the cost

of inflation.

Congress is seriously considering across-the-board cuts to many

domestic programs. Such cuts would reduce cancer research funding by

$100 million. If these cuts are approved, this would be the first

Congress in more than a decade to cut funding to NIH.

Last month, 92 Senators and 275 Representatives signed a letter in

support of the goal to end suffering and death from cancer by 2015 -

adequate funding is a prerequisite to reaching this goal.

The Senate has approved a $1 billion increase for NIH, providing an

increase for critical cancer research that will help ensure we keep

pace in our progress toward the 2015 goal. The House can demonstrate

its commitment to this fight by agreeing to the Senate’s plan to

ensure that cancer research continues its tradition of progress.
