Guest guest
[isn't this the most insane idea you've heard in a while??? CUTTING cancer research money??? Please please please call, write, e-mail or whatever your congress member to tell them that this is EXACTLY THE WRONG THING TO DO!!! We must all realize that although there is waste in government, MEDICAL RESEARCH ISN'T WASTE! I'm writing my congress member tonight! Your input is REALLY NEEDED!!!] American Association for Cancer Research AACR Legislative Action Alert! Oppose NIH Budget Cuts by Friday, November 11 Date: Wed, 9 Nov 2005 19:23:01 -0500 From: AACRUpdates@... Add to Address Book Add Mobile Alert All AACR Members and Members of the Board of Directors From: Dr. Margaret Foti, Chief Executive Officer; Dr. G. V, Chair, Science Policy & Legislative Affairs Committee Date: November 9, 2005 by e-mail Re: Please CALL Your House Member by the end of the day on Friday, November 11: Tell the House to Reject a Proposal That Would Cut Cancer Research Funding by $100 million. The amount of money allocated to the National Institutes of Health for 2006 by the House of Representatives doesn't even cover the cost of inflation. Congress is seriously considering across-the-board cuts to many domestic programs. Such cuts would reduce cancer research funding by $100 million. If these cuts are approved, this would be the first Congress in more than a decade to cut funding to NIH. Last month, 92 Senators and 275 Representatives signed a letter in support of the goal to end suffering and death from cancer by 2015 - adequate funding is a prerequisite to reaching this goal. The Senate has approved a $1 billion increase for NIH, providing an increase for critical cancer research that will help ensure we keep pace in our progress toward the 2015 goal. The House can demonstrate its commitment to this fight by agreeing to the Senate’s plan to ensure that cancer research continues its tradition of progress. ACTION REQUESTED AACR urges you to take the following steps by the end of the day on Friday, November 11: Call (202) 224-3121 and ask for the office of your Member of the House of Representatives. Once connected, ask for the health legislative aide; Explain that continuing strong funding for the National Institutes of Health is critically important to making progress against cancer; Urge that the Member oppose cuts to cancer research funding and support the Senate's $1 billion increase for medical research funding at the NIH; Thank the Member for past support and for their time and attention to this issue; More Calls: If you have time, please place a similar call to one or more of the following key House leaders - it will only take a few minutes of your time. Jerry (R-CA) Ralph Regula (R-OH) Jim Nussle (R-IA) (202) 225-5861 (202) 225-3876 (202) 225-2911 Health legislative aide (LA): Health LA: Viquar Ahmad Health LA: Wickre Hamilton Thank you for your ACTION.
