Try not to go alone if at all possible. This way you have a witness it they try to say one thing and it is not right. Since I know that you don't drive, it shouldn't be hard but try and bring someone that you can bring into the appointment with you. You may not think that they will try anything but by the time you know for sure, it will be too late.

Hi all, tomorrow I have an appt., with the state appointed doctor for a physical exam tomorrow, Monday 1/19. Anyone have any last minute advice or pointers for me? I know they try to intimedate and I've already gotten a taste of his personality when he called me himself to confirm the appt for Monday. The next Monday the 26th I have the mental exam and since I'm depressed and cry easily and on Zoloft and Xanex so that shouldn't be too much of an issue. It's the physical exam that has me nervous and I really don't know why, because just when the doctor touches me he'll know I'm hurting. I guess it's because they try to belittle you're illness/es and make you think you're crazy and/or that you really aren't sick. These are the stories I've heard anyway.

So if anyone has any advice I would trully appreciate it or anything to calm my nerves down would be great. Thank you all so much. H

Thanks so much for that advice and actually I am going alone and I am driving. I couldn't find anyone to go with or take me. But that's great advice and with my memory not so good, it would be great to have someone with me. H

, most likely what he is going to do is check to make sure you have the problems listed on your application for disability. Just be honest and truthful. There isn't any preparation that you can do. Oh, forgot, just don't go in with your hair and makeup all perfect. Wear older dark colored clothing. This is for all appts that you have, even if and when you go in front of the judge. This is the advice my attorney gave me. Sandie -- [HeidiLiane] DISABILITY DOCTOR ADVICE Hi all, tomorrow I have an appt., with the state appointed doctor for a physical exam tomorrow, Monday 1/19. Thank you for that, at least I know what I was thinking was okay to do. After I washed my hair I just put it in a ponytail and didn't plan on wearing any make-up. The clothing I will need to figure out. Thank you so very much. H

: You got some good advice in terms of not looking your best. They believe sick and depressed people should look like hell, so give them that.

Also, they will likely do a tender point exam on you. I am sure you know what that is. They will try to trip you up by pressing on areas that are not tender points as well to see if you are lying.

Even though it is a physical exam, you will want them to know that you are depressed and anxious. I know you are having the psych appointment as well. They will do a complete mental status exam on you. Again, don't look good and emphasize your anxious and depressed symptoms. If your psych has provided results of pen and paper test results for depression and anxiety that are scored, that will help immensely.

Good luck!

All of this advice is so very helpful, and believe me, I have no problem looking a mess, so no big adjustment there. As far as the tender points, I hurt everywhere because I have so many different things wrong besides the FMS/CFS. I have cervical and lumbar issues as well, so if he pushes where a tender point isn't, it's still gonna hurt. What would I do than, explain about my problems? Thanks so much for all the advice. H

K,

I will be thinking of you in what seems to be a game of proving to idiots that you are indeed really ill.

I have been watching for weeks and weeks as others give you advice on what to do how to approach things, what to write, how to even start the process.................I am telling you I think I will never even go after disability it seems so very scary and degrading to go through this horrible process. I admire you for doing this. You are a strong, powerful woman. I will be thinking of you.

Hugs,

Sue

Thanks Sue, very much. Yes it's scary and I will admit that I am scared. Of course, this doesn't help the symptoms, but I'm only human. I've heard horror stories as well and I think I'm afraid of how I'll be treated more than anything. I don't deserve to be belittled, treated nastily or that I'm faking. I would never ever wish this on my worse enemy ever! I know there are alot of fraudulent claims, but just by my history of doctor's reports, it's all there. To put any of us through this really is degrading, but it has to be done. I waited and waited to file because of this, but then decided I deserve this! I've paid into the system for 32 yrs! Thank you for the confidence you've shown in me, but really and truly I'm nervous as all. Will let you all know what happens after tomorrows appt.

Thanks so much for caring. H
