I am sorry you are sick. I to have been sick for 4 weeks now.I have been pulled off all Fibro meds so I am in pain.I have a hubby who thinks unless I am dead I can do everything.Even when doc told me to stay in bed all I heard was are you going to wash my uniforms, are you going to cook dinner. There are time I want to bash in upside his head. And I told him so as well.I am so thankful I have this group to vent with and who understands the pain I feel.It sucks being around people who think it is all in your head.I am going Tuesday to talk with my doc about Savella.I need something.

She called in the meds, but only if I would make an appointment to see her. So yesterday I go in there at 8:30 AM and didn't leave until almost 1:00 PM.

Turns out that in addition to shingles, I have bronchitis, acute asthma, a urinary tract infection, and dehydration. She gave me IV fluids while I was there and a breathing treatment with a nebulizer, prescribed antiotics, cough syrup, and Prednisone--which I loathe taking--and she made me stop taking the anti-viral meds for shingles, which is what I'm the most concerned about.

Pam,

The whole male sex is in the dog house right now for me so if you want I can call up your husband and give him what for. Raised eyebrows indeed. You rest and when you can, go cough on him.

I am very upset with you for being dehydrated. Pam, that is terrible. The fact you are so sick and you did not know it is terrible. You must be miserable. The shingles alone I know is awful.

I truly hope that you rest ALL weekend. Drink and pamper yourself by allowing yourself the luxury to rest without any guilt. No guilt. Do everything you know you should. Try to limit your intake of sugar. Your body is struggling as it is and it robs your cells of nutrients and does other damage.

I will pray for you to be well soon.

many hugs,

Sue

Pam - Thank God you have a concerned doctor who followed through on

everything. So wise to follow her advice. And wiser still to want to

stay home and renew your energy levels. You need peace, quiet

(peace-of-mind) and time to begin the healing process. Like you I worry

about the prednisone. Because I read somewhere recently that prednison

can also weaken the immune system. I also read (can't remember where?)

that people with fibro need to drink more water than others. I think the

author advised to drink a glass of water on the hour. So yes you do need

to rehydrate yourself constantly.

If ever you have great difficulty in breathing (and nothing else helps)

drink several cups of very strong black coffee. It dilates the bronchial

tubes. Not many people know about this so pass this tip along. Oh, and

pomegranite juice for the urinary tract infection. I think cranberries

are also good for this. It's my hope and prayer that you start feeling

better soon. Sorry you're feeling so sick right now.

Love & hugs

Hi Pam,

I am so sad to hear that you are so sick. That must be terribly frustrating. I can relate to what your hubby is doing- you know we kind of have that in common. Mine jsut informed me this AM that he quite his job even though we already didn't know how to make it, so I am stress sick, but nothing like you. All my prayers are with you to feel better and get some rest. I will pray too that hubby will act more like Christ calls our husbands to act towards us and less like they want to act.

Thanks so much, Sue. Things got worse last night, I couldn't stop vomiting. All I could think of while it's happening is that I'm losing all my fluids. Funny what goes through your mind during certain situations. I'm drinking as much as I can--although this morning I'm hesitant to eat or drink anything. I don't want a repeat of last night. I begin to wonder if all these meds I'm taking are making me sicker and sicker.

Carlene, thanks for your concern. It's funny that you should mention pomegranite juice--I've got a big, fat, pomegranite sitting on my kitchen counter, and this morning I kept staring at it--it seemed to be calling to me. Instead I made a cup of tea. Last night was bad, I couldn't stop vomiting. So this morning I'm hesitant to consume anything. I do think I will consider the pomegranite though.

My doctor told me exactly what you said about Prednisone--that it can weaken an immune system. She said she doesn't like to use it unless it's absolutely necessary. It's one of the reasons that she told me to stay home and rest.

I'm trying to drink as much as I can, don't need any more IVs. I have a great will to heal, I have continuas communication with God, and I am blessed with wonderful friends like you. I'll be OK.

So dear Pam,

Do they know why you are throwing up so much? That is why you have a bladder infection because you were dehydrated. When you are dehydrated bacteria can get in the bladder, hence the infection.

This really is a terrible situation. They should at least give you some anti-nausea drugs to you can get re hydrated or keep you and put an IV in you. The more dehydrated you get the more you electrolytes get off the more sick to your stomach you will feel. It is a viscous cycle. It also effects your blood sugar which also makes you feel sicker. What you can do is get the hubby ( I say this with some hope) to go to the store and get some Gatorade. Have him make you a glass with LOTS of ice. Then you take tiny, tiny sips of it. Or you can have orange juice with a spoonful of honey in it, mixed very well. Tiny, tiny sips. The orange juice thing really works.

I am very worried about you. I am wondering if those values of your kidneys being off are what is making you sick. As for eating, I would not eat until you can deal with fluids. It is most important for you to try and re hydrate first.

I will be checking in on you.

hugs,

Sue

Pam,

I also wanted to ad a couple more things. Your concern first should not be your shingles, as bad as it might make you feel. Your first concern should be your breathing and your dehydration. Those two problems are things that can kill you. If you cannot stop throwing up you should take yourself to the hospital so they can give you an IV and give you some anti-nausea meds. Put yourself first. Like I said, I am very worried about you. So take this seriously.

Hi , (and Sue, Clare, Carlene--everybody),

I'm feeling better today. I have been sipping tea and orange juice, eating nothing. I can't think of anything that sounds appealing enough to eat anyhow. I am keeping down the tea and juice and even some water. I am so thankful that the awful dry heaves is gone, not to mention that awful nausea, the greasy feeling of eternal spinning even when you close your eyes.... well, I can stand up and walk around, get my tea or whatever.

As Sue has ordered :-) for now I'm trying to ignore the shingles, trying to take the meds I absolutely need and forego the others--I am convinced that 50% or more of my problems stem from all these poison meds I take. My doc actually agreed with me the other day, but said that stopping the meds is not an option "right now."

Well. Anyhow. I'm better. Maybe even the UTI is a little better. I hope. Hubby has gone to his family reunion. Right up to when he walked out the door, I think he thought I would suddenly throw off my blanket and leap up, fully clothed and ready to go with him. So he left in a state of slight surprise, but didn't give me a hard time for which I was thankful. And once again, I'm glad to be alone for a while.

I had all this stuff scheduled for this weekend, and I'm not doing any of it. Hubby is sulking, not happy that I will not go to a basketball game tomorrow afternoon or to his family reunion on Sunday. He won't say that out loud, but I know what he's thinking. He never follows a doctor's instructions, so he sees no need for me to do it. I was really sick this morning when he left to run some errands; while he was gone I began to feel better, so when he got home I was sitting up here in my chair, my computer on my lap (as it is now). He raises his eyebrows and asks if I'm better now. It is his belief that unless I am obviously near death, I am well enough to do pretty much anything.

Boo! I hope you feel better. That gym sounds so fantastic. No wonder you're in withdrawals.Hope you rest and kick that bug in the butt.

Hugs... I took a sick day today too and probably will tomorrow as well. Nose is raw from blowing it all day.  I miss the gym terribly.  It's weird, I'm addicted to that place now and am going through withdrawals.

Hope you feel better soon, !Hugs!

hi all,  I woke up not feeling well today. I have a sore throat and my ears hurt really bad.  I did go to work, but I doubt I will tomorrow.  I made me an MD appt for 8 AM tomorrow.  We had a blood drive at work today, I wanted to give but they wouldn't let me since I was sick.  They gave me a shirt anyways since I tried.  I did not work out today and won't tomorrow either.  I came home from work at 4:30 PM, ate my subway sandwich and went to bed.  I just now got up at 8:30, I am going to check my email, take the dogs out to pee and then I'm going back to bed.  Have a great evening all,  and good morning to the rest of you who will be getting up before reading this.

Oh dearJudy - hope your practitioner is a good one, root canals can be brutal (during my summer tooth incident the root canal was smooth sailing the sleeping infection that came alive was the nightmare), I have no reassuring words the for $$$, I'm still paying off that nightmare, yikes.

- Your gym addiction is a good thing, hope you can get your fix very soon.Take care Vennitta
