Guest guest
the viral load, dead or alive has little relevance in determining the state of immunity. cd4 count measures the immune state. if it goes below 200 meds are started, above 200 it's a call, but not considered onset of full-blown AIDS. the virus itself does little except to destroy cd4 which you need in order to have immune function. it is measured to get a general idea, it's not final. you can have a viral load of zero but a low cd4 count and have to stay on the meds. or a high viral load but not need the meds, and many people are in this boat. at very early stages the viral load is in the millions, but the cd4 is fine, so no meds are used, for example. bG
