Guest guest
Hi , this is the reply I got from : Dear Donna, I sincerely apologize for the delay in replying to your email. I receive far more emails than I can answer during the very limited " spare time " I have in the evening. For more details, please phone me during my business hours (10 am to 5:30 pm EST). The liver detoxifies water-insoluble toxins. Therefore water is a poor solvent and poor carrier in the liver. Herbs in tea form, tablet or capsules depend on water to transport through the liver. Alcohol is a better solvent and carrier in the liver than water. Therefore herbs in alcoholic tincture are carried through the liver more efficiently. Actually alcohol in the tincture serves 3 main purposes: (1) It is a better solvent for extracting organic ingredents in the herbs many of which are not water soluble; (2) It is a natural preservative; (3) It is a better carrier than water in the liver. We typically use 20% pure grain alcohol in the cold extraction manufacturing process for the tinctures. Please note that the amount of alcohol contained in a teaspoonful or tablespoonful of tincture (a typical dosage) is very small. A small amount of alcohol taken daily is actually beneficial. For example, in the January 22, 1996 issue of Newsweek magazine, it is stated that " study after study shows that regular wine drinking cuts your risk of heart trouble by up to 50%........R. Curtis Ellison, who conduct research on wine and heart disease at Boston University, said that abstaining from alcohol is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease " . Of course, heavy alcohol drinking is certainly detrimental to the liver, but light drinking is like having cleansing solvent for the liver. I recall an earlier study in the UK (unfortunately I do not have the reference) which showed that moderate drinkers live longer than non-drinkers.
