Guest guest
I;m sure the two are connected. Don't fret. I've had both for 20 years. Finally got relief from the mood swings by taking 6000 mg of salmon oil daily and 200 mgs 5HTP. I tried many, many antidepressants which either didn't work of wore off after about 6 weeks. If I keep up with the salmon oil and 5 HTP I don't suffer severe or long depression. I'm more balanced than with any drugs I could take. Yes, fibro affects your neurotransmitters as well as your body.Helen Brecker <davidbrecker@...> wrote: HI Has anyone have bipolar 2 along with fibromyalgia i have to be checked for it and it is a strong possibility that i have it as well. Guest guest
Well, I would think that to some degree anyone with fibromyalgia would have it. When the medicines are working you feel great and happy. When the medicines fail you feel down. I know this is looking at it very simplistically but I feel to some point that is it true. Now if you were bipolar before you got fibromyalgia , then I would say it is more of a predominate problem. An if so could be a heavier driving force on how you feel from time to time. It's just my thought on thought on the subject. Plus some of the crazy medicines we take can have bad side effects, that can open up us to other problems. Live well and feel good,,, " Live long and prosper " was already taken,,,, > > HI > Has anyone have bipolar 2 along with fibromyalgia i have to be checked for it and it is a strong possibility that i have it as well. Guest guest
Yes, I also have been diagnosed with bipolar 2. I can totally believe the strong link with fibromyalgia; I once had a genetic test and was told by the doctor doing the analysis that fibromyalgia and bipolar 2 are linked to the same gene. I asked around in my family and found out that I have two cousins who were diagnosed with bipolar 2 and one with fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed after a very difficult time in which I was hospitalized following an extended period of sleep deprivation. My family convinced me to check myself in to the psych ward, I was let out after one night when a very smart doctor determined that there was not a whole lot wrong with me other than the fact that I had fibromyalgia and couldn't sleep. He put me on medication that actually helped me (like so many of you, I've had a very difficult time with medication). And then I was released and recommended to an outpatient program, and that's where I was diagnosed. The psychiatrist there put me on Trileptal, which has helped tremendously, although at times I've had to up my dosage, and I've learned to help control myself using meditation and breath work. It can be a tough haul, and I very much sympathize with what you're going through. One thing that helped me is to remember that I am not my diagnosis. I am a person with a little hiccup in my brain chemistry and that can be improved. Laurie
