Guest guest
In the past year I have been able to get off of all pain meds. For one thing, I found out my vitamin D levels are very low so I upped it to 6800 IUs daily plus I have a wonderful Christian psychologist who does hypnotherapy that has been amazingly helpful to me. I take zyflamend from New Chapter as an herbal anti-inflammatory, large doses of two kinds of magensium, CoQ10, B12 and Rhodiola for energy, multi vitamin/mineral; ester C; grapeseed extract; probiotic; digestive enzymes; calcium citrate with vitamin D3 plus 2000 IUs of vitamin D after each meal; osteo biflex; and 2400 IUs of fish oil daily. I also am on bioidentical hormones and armour thyroid. I joined Sansone's walk site and gradually built up to walking 6 miles a day and in the past year I have lost 20 pounds and taken 4 inches off of my waist. I feel more fit now than in my 40s and I will soon be 59. For me the exercise lessens the pain in the long run and it is the best thing for stress. I do use compounded pain cream on my hips at night, but that is more for damage to the sciatic nerve from a spinal fusion in 1998 and chronic bursitis. The only meds I can't get off of are the sleep ones. Four nights a week I take ambie with soma and the other 3 I take 1.5 mg of klonopin along with an over the counter sleep aid. I also take 3 mg of timed release melatonin and 200 mg of 5 HTP nightly and my psychologist made me a sleep tape in our last session and it is really helping me sleep better and deeper. I also meditate or do deep breathing while listening to my Christian CDs or guided muscle relaxation which all help me to relax and deal with stress. I feel great in spite of still having pain daily and my life is good. My dear husband of 38 years just had emergency open heart surgery on May 1 plus finished up a round of chemo and we praise God for how good he is doing. sue in ohio From: heidi <heidilhlokey@...>Subject: What Pain Medications are you all taking????dominie Date: Saturday, June 14, 2008, 7:36 PM I thought since we all are discussing Lyrica etc.. Guest guest
Hi..I was just put on Gabapentin 300. I take Ambien for sleep. I also take Provigil for Narcolepsy. I am being tested for perifial (sp) neuropathy this coming week. I now have a new doc, a neurologist, who says I have nerve damage in my legs and wants to do some kind of test using electrodes. Sounds like fun, huh? Sal : ) > > > I thought since we all are discussing > > Lyrica etc.. Guest guest
I prefer to not take any drugs at all. It has been my experience that they bring more unwanted side effects than they are worth. Plus, many are habit forming. I have had more luck with mild daily exercise and a diet loaded with nutritious raw fruits and veggies. Along with the usual supplements like magnesium malate, guaifenesin, MSM, 5-HTP, Omega-3 fish oil, B complex, Enzymatic's " Fatigued to Fantastic " , oregano oil, and all the rest that are listed on my fibro webpage. Lately, I have had more good days than bad. When I lapse back into my old habits, my fibro comes back with a vengeance. So, as long as I stick to a healthy lifestyle and keep my immune system happy, I'm able to keep the fibro minimized to the point that I hardly notice it. > > > I thought since we all are discussing > > Lyrica etc.. Guest guest
I don't take any pain medications on a daily basis. I exercise and am fortunate enough to have found a massage therapist who knows how to help and I see her once a week. I take whirlpools and sometimes use a heating pad for my lower back. But there are times when I will take a muscle relaxer for spasm, but rarely. However, if I pull a muscle or have a back disk act up it seems to last much longer for me than it should. When this happens I sometimes take hydrocodone if the pain is too much for me to sleep. It helps and even breaks the cycle of the pain if I'm lucky. I don't feel that anyone who takes pain meds is wrong. I feel terrible for anyone who is hurting daily. It's hellish. But after many years of coping with this disease I have come to the conclusion that many of the meds prescribed for me in the past just didn't work. I have seen a rehab and pain specialist for the back pain and he advised me to take Advil and Tylenol for the disk pain and even though I was very skeptical - it works! Hope everyone who is hurting has a less painful day today! Guest guest
My lyrica was discontinued. I gained 70 pounds on that med and couldn't quit eating. It didn't help with the pain either. My pain meds are: Hydrocodone w/Apap 5-500mg and Tramadol 50 mg. I also take Carisoprodol (muscle relaxer), high doses of Calcium CITRATE and vitamin D. That has helped with the pain tremendously! I just started taking Glucosamine and Chondrotin. I take other meds for other conditions also. Peace, Marty MY ILLNESS IS INVISIBLE BUT MY HOPE SHINES THROUGH! Guest guest
I take vistaril 50-100 mg at night. Valium 10-20 mg a day. And, Ultram 50-200 mg a day. I eat Activia every morning! I drink Danactive every afternoon. I try to eat a healthy diet. I really don't eliminate any foods, I haven't found any that make me feel better or worse. I can't tolerate vitamins. All make me sick to my stomach - even with food. And, they set off my IBS. I try to get up every two or three hours to stretch. I pray! Daily! Sometimes Hourly!!!! I meditate with self-hypnosis tapes. Bella Ruth Naperstack is the best! She even has one for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue, Pain, Stress, IBS and more. Relaxing and comforting voice! Of course, if I could just get good sleep without the IC and getting up 3-20 times a night. I think I could improve. But, this is part of the fibromyalgia and autonomic system dysfunctionality. I wish I could run, jump, walk and excerise like a normal person. I wish I could tend to my household duties as well. But all in time. Good THREAD Heidi! Interesting responses. We are all so different. This shows one one thing works differently for others. But throwing out what others do, may help us find something new for ourselves. Guest guest
From - I am one of the lucky ones, I can still work 3 days a week-barely, but I do it. I take Ultram, twice daily. Lyrica, 25mg twice daily. Effexor xr 150mg daily. Provigil 50mg when I work. Topamax 200mg at bedtime. Klonopin 1mg at bedtime for my fls. vitamin d 50,000iu twice weekly or more as directed;fe c plus daily for the rest of my life! Vitamins-Oil complex with olive oil, fishoil, borage, etc twice daily; sublingual b12 5000mcg twice daily;women's one a day once daily; alpha lipoic acid once daily; I tried to go up to 75mg twice daily on the lyrica, couldn't do it. Too much swelling and eye problems. So we increased the Topamax instead with good results, and most of all, NO WEIGHT GAIN! I have vasculitis also, so the lyrica was aggravating that in higher doses, but the 50mg per day is just right. IF i get some inflammation I just take advil. Guest guest
After reading Heidi's list I feel (well) like, should I even be here. But actually, yes! Although I may not always be in excrutiating pain, I go back and forth between CFS and FIBRO. I realized that I was trying to get better by all of this exercise I was doing and I went into a debilitating flare up. Well,, it took me almost two weeks of continuos workouts that I learned I was doing way too much and doing it to myself. Now I am back to "normal" or what as a fibro might be called normal. But I sometimes have to take muscle relaxers, Ibuprophen, Lidoderm patches (for pain- RX only) and chiropractic treatment. I've done accupuncture wich helped me A HUGE DEAL. And lastly I tried massage because my muscles were soooo tight and flared up I was thinking I tore a muscle or something. I feel better now. Anyhow, I take a multi-vitamin, magnesium, stool softner and sometimes Vitamin B-complex (when I am really stressed). Plus I take Zoloft 100 mg., and I take Addrell 5 mg. (for my ADHD)--he-hee! I have that too. What Pain Medications are you all taking???? I thought since we all are discussing Lyrica etc.. I thought we could get a thread going on what pain medications are you all taking? This is a good idea. I've been on Lyrica since January. I find it helps with the pain and also quieted down my RLS. I went to a dietitian yesterday to help with my eating habits so I can fight the weight gain from it. Before the Lyrica was approved for me I had to try Gabapentin. It really made me sick. Since I'm in Israel, I have different names for most of the other stuff I take, but I'll make a list and add what each is for: Ibuprofen or Advil for pain. B 12 B Complex Multi vit Multi + extra antioxidents Eltroxin for hypothyroidism Flutin - antidepressant Elatrol - antidepressant to aid in falling asleep and sleeping Dopicar for RLS and other twitches Mg + Ca + Zn for muscle and bone pain Omega 3 - fish oil for everything Vit C 500 mg for protection Propolis + echenicia + vit C - portection against colds, etc Alpha D 3 for strong bones Cranberry Concentrate I think for antiox. They say it's good for MS, which I have. Betaferon shots every other day 0.75cc for MS. I think that's all of it. It's a little hard to remember all of them. The thing that worries me most is the effect of all this junk on my liver. The liver enzymes really go crazy from it all. That brings up the question of whether the treatment is worth the collateral damage it causes. Who knows? The most important thing is to feel as good as you can, no matter how. Guest guest
I also eat Activia every day for lunch and have Actimel, the equivilent of Danactive, every morning. Do you think they really do anything? I swim 1.2km every morning, 7/7 if I'm at home. I do treatments including shihatsu, So Juk, reflexology every week. Those help for sure and swimming is my religion. Today I'm having a " minor " MS attack. Well, the last 3 days were really good, so it had to come. It's always like that. Guest guest
Hi , I took Oxycontin, pretty much the same thing, for a long time. It finally caused me such severe constipation that I gave it up cold- turkey and just took ibuprofen for a short time until my gp found me something else. I think at that point I returned to Tramex (Tramadol) twice daily and Tegratol at night. All of them helped for a while, but then I got used to them and they stopped. So far the Lyrica is doing prettu well. I take 100mg in the morning and 75mg at night. Sometimes I add another 75 some time during the day or night. Gotta do what we gotta do. Guest guest
Yes, I believe the danactive and activia help! I have been taking for 6 months now and my IBS is signficantly better as well as acid reflux. I was skeptical when I started. I just wanted to help my immune system. People have been eating yogurt for ages!!!! And, the health benefits have always been good. Carolyn > > > > > > > > > I thought since we all are discussing > > > > > > Lyrica etc..
