When did you start taking it? Did I miss the post where you told us you were beginning MTX therapy? How much are you taking and is it orally or by injection? Folic acid supplementation can help eliminate many MTX side-effects, including mouth sores. Are you taking folic acid? Hope you are OK. You've been unusually quiet. Guest guest
My doctor said it was one of the possible side effect and everything that I have read confirms that. P.S. I have sores. > Is it normal to have sores in your mouth with MTX > > Ohio - Terr
Guest guest
Hi It's been a year now on Arava, Celebrex and Elavil. My feet, ankles and knees started getting worse and my hands started going numb. My wrists haven't gone down for a year now so Methotrexate and Folic Acid have been added. So now I take Celebrex 200 twice a day, Arava 20 once a day, Elavil 25 at night so I can sleep, Folic acid once a day, and MTX 10 once a week. I read the article in Arthritis Today on MTX and Arava. Hope they are right. Also read the article on MTX and the guy that lives on an oxygen bottle because of it. Ohio - Terry
Guest guest
I don't know about mtx causing the mouth sores, because i have gotten them since I have been diagnosed with RA and then later Fibromyalgia, and that has been over the last 20 years. I've used everything from baking soda, to antacids, to whatever else I could think of. The thing that finally worked and is still working is " REMBRANDT " Toothpaste, I don't know why but it just doesd...Try it and Good Luck. Guest guest
I think I will try that too. I usually douse them with salt and then let it burn until it doen't anymore. Then I rince. A couple of times and it goes away finally. I will have to try Rembrant. > I don't know about mtx causing the mouth sores, because i have gotten them > since I have been diagnosed with RA and then later Fibromyalgia, and that > has been over the last 20 years. Guest guest
Terry, Yes, sores are normal with mtx. Folic acid supplements normally will help keep the sores away. Do you take folic acid? If so, how many mg's? I've been on mtx for 2 months now, but I'm only taking 7.5mgs and haven't had any mouth sores. My liver enzymes elevated, so my doctor increased my folic acid from one to two mg's. Tomorrow I go back to the rheumy to see if the folic acid increase had any affect on my labs. a -----Original Message----- From: terryperrella@... Guest guest
Have him wash his mouth with salt warm water 3 times a day. When I get them, they go away in 2 days after doing the salt warm water. If they don't go away, you need to take him to an orthodontist surgeon. Regular dentists don't know much about that type of stuff. > My 8-year-old son has three canker sores in his mouth. His doctor > says they are canker sores anyway. Guest guest
This may well be a vitamin B6 deficiency and/or yeast. Guest guest
Vitamin E oil is also recommended for mouth sores but make sure you get food grade. Also note that some vit E is from wheat germ so if gf you'll want it from some other source. S S You might try giving your son Lysine. It works well for my cold
sores. Guest guest
I have taken ground cloves and rubbed into canker sores and cold sores. Numbs the area and really seems to help dry them up. This will sting a little bit. Maybe good to numb it with something topical first depending on the age of your son. I really think it helped though. I get canker sores every so often. Heard from one person it is an indication of stomach sores and that aloe vera juice would be helpful. Can't say I have tried it but it maybe something to look at? bizzymama@... wrote: not positive but I think folic acid too... My #1 needs B50, selenium, and lysine to eliminate canker sores. Dana
