Guest guest
A lot of Fibro folks I meet or talk to have had their gallbladder removed (me included) and since it IS an organ in the body responsible for removing bile, I can truly see how dietary changes (i.e. gluten free) could improve how we feel. I think one of the worst things my Dr. could have said to me when I left the hospital from that procedure was 'you'll be back to your usual diet in a day or so'. I never even considered make dietary improvements back then nor did he bother to consider telling me to do so either, yet he told my husband (while I was in recovery) that I had one of the most diseased gallbladders he'd ever seen. Why not tell him how that happened? Elaborate - seriously, what could I have done to stop that? Anything? My mother drinks 4 oz of Apple Cider Vinegar (w/water & honey) everyday and says its one of the best things she's ever done to keep herself healthy and cleansed but I just can't do it - YUCK! I know I sound paranoid but I feel so poisoned sometimes. Things are some much different now than 20-50-80 or even 100 years ago and there's a lady in Israel right now who's 120 years old and moving around like it's nothing. What can people like her teach us? Microwaves and processed foods, hormones in our animals, etc All the drugs we have to take to survive *then* we need to take more to offset the side effects of the ones we need to take to survive? Seriously what exactly were these people doing decades ago to treat some of the things we need a Drs. script for now? My mind races on this constantly...are we chemically overrun? Killing ourselves for the luxury of technology and convenience? I am actually starting to miss those days of having to get up (from across the room) and change the channel on the TV (with the dials not buttons) for my Mom before Remote controls were invented... You hear people refer to FM as the "Yuppie Flu" which used to pee me off big time but now I think...there could be significant truth to that in some ways. Look back to times when we didn't have all the gadgets, conveniences, preservatives, additives, hormones, chemicals, drugs, pollutants, Ozone damage, I could go on and on...this so called 'Yuppie Flu' only came on board in epidemic proportions once all these changes started flourishing really... Just my random thoughts - would love to hear yours and thanks to all who participate in this board. Your contributions are truly appreciated! Rae Ann Delicious ideas to please the pickiest eaters. Guest guest
Rae Ann, Your random thoughts make a lot of sense. I, too, have had my gallbladder removed, and, like you, no one ever discussed with me what might have caused the problem, or what changes I might want to make after the procedure. I have heard of the apple cider vinegar thing, and have even thought of trying it myself. I'm thinking I might be able to suffer through downing the vinegar, if it would make a difference in the way I feel. Does your mom drink regular vinegar that she buys at the grocery store? Guest guest
Rae Ann, I developed FMS back in 1954 following a bout with infectious hepatitis, known today as Hepatitis A. We had black and white TV, had to get up and turn the knob to change channels. All food was cooked fresh. We didn't use chemicals other than soap. FMS, through the years has had many names and can be traced back to the 1800's. Sandie -- Chemically poisoned? Guest guest
huh, maybe i'm one of the few that the gallbladder got removed and solved a lot of my problems... i guess it depends on why the gallbladder got screwed up in the first place.. mine was removed when i was 23 so i was far from the typically case (probably actually related to pernacious anemia)... i'm not sure how much chemicals/additives/perservatives, etc really effect people in general or those with fibro (i tend to be skeptical), but i definately advocate to limit this in foods, envirnoment, etc since we really can't be for sure... i think its my splenda and such scare me because its just another chemical and being a chemist and understanding how and why things got modified and how the body recognizes them scare me.. i try never to read ingredients lists anymore, because i recognize what it is and decided ignorance was bliss..Dominie Bush <dombush@...> wrote: See "Drained by the Brain" about yuppie flu at http://www.fms-help.com/yuppie.htm And I agree with you about apple cider vinegar and honey - tried it - YUCK! Guest guest
I don't think we can blame FM on microwaves. They just create heat. There's nothing there that changes the chemical composition of our food. Now additives and processing and pesticides--that's another matter altogether, but mostly, I think some people just have better genes than others. FMA has been around a long time--there just was no name for it. The fact that it is now identified and that we are beginning to have medication for it is progress, even if it's not fast enough for us who suffer. Personally I don't eat meat, so I avoid the hormones, but I can't afford a lot of organically grown food, though I do eat some. I just wash what I buy carefully and avoid processed foods for the most part. Guest guest
Microwaves definitely don't just create heat, they radiate our food and if it's in a plastic container that's even worse. In a message dated 2/26/2008 4:28:49 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, rj.cann@... writes: Actually, microwaved food, radiation exposure and Depleted Uranium (nuclear toxic waste) are to blame for both hormone imbalances and asthma in most female Navy service members and Navy wives. I had to throw out (sell) the microwave because everything I cooked in it caused blisters on my tongue. I am an Army veteran with obvious radiation exposure due to proximity to tanks and helos returning from the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan. Tanks are actually made of nuclear waste. Helos are just covered with the stuff, and all fluids on helos contain aerosolized Depleted Uranium. Ironically, the only tests currently being funded by the VA (that I know about) are more radiation scans of veterans brains. SPEC scans, PET scans, gastro X-ray scans. The more radiation to which you are exposed, the more the Fibro pain intensifies. Just from my own personal experience. Entering into hospitals and X-ray wards causes intensified pain, as does drinking barium in preparation for X-rays. Re: Chemically poisoned? I don't think we can blame FM on microwaves. Guest guest
Actually, microwaved food, radiation exposure and Depleted Uranium (nuclear toxic waste) are to blame for both hormone imbalances and asthma in most female Navy service members and Navy wives. They just create heat. There's nothing there that changes the chemical composition of ourfood. Now additives and processing and pesticides--that's anothermatter altogether, but mostly, I think some people just have bettergenes than others.FMA has been around a long time--there just was no name for it. Thefact that it is now identified and that we are beginning to havemedication for it is progress, even if it's not fast enough for us whosuffer.Personally I don't eat meat, so I avoid the hormones, but I can'tafford a lot of organically grown food, though I do eat some. I justwash what I buy carefully and avoid processed foods for the most part.Barbara>> A lot of Fibro folks I meet or talk to have had their gallbladderremoved > (me included) and since it IS an organ in the body responsible forremoving > bile, I can truly see how dietary changes (i.e. gluten free) couldimprove how > we feel. Guest guest
This is interesting. My mom cannot go through an MRI at all. Her incision from bowel surgeries gets extremely hot to the touch and it burns her extremely bad (this starts after not even 4 minutes after the MRI turns on.) I was with her in an open ended MRI holding her hand so I know from 1st hand experience. The doctors can't explain it. A CT scan reveiled 2 staples, but they shouldn't be causing the burn. Her stomach stays hot for 6-7 hours afterwards as well. I'd like to find out more, or send her more information on this please... again, her email address is rita10@... Thanks, Nadine b1write <bfrnd@...> wrote: I can speak only for myself. I have never noticed increased pain fromwalking into a hospital or having x-rays, MRIs, CAT scans, etc. Perhaps you can explain how being near a tank creates radiationexposure. I don't understand this. Tanks are made from metal andplastics, not nuclear waste. Can you give me some mainstream sources that discuss what you saidbelow? I'd certainly want to learn more.Barbara>> Actually, microwaved food, radiation exposure and DepletedUranium (nuclear toxic waste) are to blame for both hormone imbalancesand asthma in most female Navy service members and Navy wives.> I had to throw out (sell) the microwave because everything Icooked in it caused blisters on my tongue.
