That was 12 years ago and I am sick to hear you say that you had it happen to you too. <<Now I'm on Ridaura and Prednisone.>> I was on those too for a few years. For me, the pain never stopped flip flopping while on those and I gained 30lbs and felt worse. I chose that combo though because I was still trying to have children and had to go with something less harmful when trying to conceive. Now I am on MTX and still trying to find the best dose/combo for me. Believe it or not, I felt the best when I took MSM with Glucosamine/Chondroiton Sulfate along with high does of Vitamin C and an array of other Vitamins and Minerals. That comboed with a vegetarian diet with lots of salmon and no dairy. I'm not recommending anything mind you, just sharing what helped me. After a few years I got sick of all those vitamins though! I'm trying to get back to it because it did help me a lot. I hope you, along with your doctor, find the best treatment for you as soon as possible. Guest guest
Ronnee: Welcome to the group. Wish I had a great response to your pain question. My only response is: it sticks closer to you than a brother. One of the hardest things to do is to learn to live with the flippin pain, (as you put it). We have good days and bad days. I am 58 had RA for about 6-7 yrs. RA does change your lifestyle but you can learn to live with it and not let it control you. Take your meds, get lots of rest, and don't overdo. I hope you will enjoy this group. They are all very special people and oh so very encouraging and helpful. Welcome again. Jan in SC

Guest guest
Welcome, Ronnee! Glad you introduced yourself. We are a big and friendly group. Hope you like it here. Sorry that the pain is bothersome. When did you start the gold and prednisone? Have you told your doctor that the pain is still a problem? Perhaps the doctor could add another medication specifically for the pain. What is your plan for the prednisone? Will you be on it indefinitely or is it just being used to calm things down and then you will wean off of it? We have many members here who can tell you that being on prednisone for many, many years is probably not the best idea. When you say " specialist, " do you mean a rheumatologist? Guest guest
The pain! Well, sometimes it's better. You said that you are on prednisone? When I was on prednisone for a short time, I had no pain at above 15 mgs. Some meds help allot, others not at all. I'm still looking for the right mix. For me opiates did nothing for the pain but do help lots of people. Mine is bad now. Will be going back on Enbrel once it comes in, use a walker and wheelchair and tomorrow have cortisone shots in my knees. Welcome! Guest guest
Welcome Ronnee. Sometimes I wonder how some doctors passed their boards. I was 20 when I was first diagnosed, but was sent to a rheumatologist right away. I'm now 46 and still being annoyed by the pain, but I've learned to live with it. There are days it really gets me down, but basically the meds I'm on have helped a lot. Riduara was one of the first meds I tried. That was to many years ago to remember much about it, but I know I didn't have any adverse reactions to it. It just wasn't effective for me and we moved on. My doctor wanted me to try the gold injections, but I was to chicken. Now I get 3 injections a week, so I've moved past the fear of injections. It's so much easier on my stomach. Gold is one of the oldest treatments for RA, so they know a lot about it's safety and long term affects. Prednone is the drug we're very concerned about long term affects. As many here will testify to, it's great for relieving pain and is fine for short term flare relief, but horrible with long term affects. Long-term use of steroid medications comes with the risk of side effects, including osteoporosis, cataracts, elevated blood pressure and a weakened immune system. Some of us have no choice but to take steroids, especially those with asthma, but there are other choices for rheumatic diseases. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDS) can be prescribed along with pain medication. You may want to talk to your doctor about alternatives to taking prednisone if his plans are to keep you on it for any length of time. It is very difficult to get off of prednisone once you've been on it for any length of time. It's not a drug that you can just stop taking. It must be slowly weaned. a -----Original Message----- From: ronneem@... Guest guest
Hi Geroge and Welcome. Yes you should get your T and E2 " Estradiol " tested and if your T is low and your E2 is high if you treat the high E2 and get it down you T levels will go up. And this may do the job. I use Cialis for my ED problem that I really don't have anymore but it make it harder and my wife likes this. I had bad ED for over 10 yrs. and it was caused from high E2. Here is a link to the AACE Guildlines on Low T. http://www.aace.com/clin/guidelines/hypogonadism.pdf and go to the home page here and read message #14939 in this you will find the best way to test and treat low T and high E2. If I had to use an HMO 21 yrs. ago when I first came down with this Low T I would have eat a bullet. WTF you only saw a nurse most of the time this is screawed up. The first 5 yrs. I was sick they told me I was suffering from Major Depression I was so messed up on AD drugs I did not know were I was and walked around in a fog for the hole time I was on them drugs. When I was put on Prozac I could hardly pee and got a bad bladder infection and had to see a Uro this Dr. saved my life he told me he did not think I was depressed but that I have low T. He tested me and I was dam low 120 on the Total T. I never was depressed but just had low T. Your feeling like this can be from Low t. so before you go this rote get your hormones checked. The message #14939 has the tests that need to be done. I am retired been retired for 6 yrs. now I stated at age 55 in the last year I have felt my best on T meds thanks to the message at 14939. Hears hoping things work out for you in less time then it took me you are in the right place comming here this is the best site for low T. In fact, in the entire time I belonged to that HMO, I saw a doctor only when I had the flu, a broken bone, or kidney stones, maybe averaging one visit every three years for 45 years. Now that I'm on Medicare I seem to have really good doctor and will be having my physical exams soon. The past year I've suffered from total E.D. but have successfully managed it with an erection vacuum pump and constrictor ring. I'm financially well off but as I face retirement, I'm moderately depressed and have a really short fuse. Early in dealing with my new G.P., should I ask him to check my testosterone or for a referral to a specialist? While I may appear to be healthy, I feel like I'm operating at about 25%. Guest guest
You are more than welcome to post my paper. Hopefully then some of the members will be able to print it out, then take it to their own physicians in hopes of getting better TRT. I am in the process of rewriting the paper. That is why I called it " My Current Thoughts... " , so I can update it as need be without redoing the whole thing. LOL. The A4M has asked me to provide an entire chapter for their new Clinical Protocols Manual. I'll be posting the updated " TRT: A Recipe for Success " on my Forum as soon as I get it done. > > > Hehe, I just tried it without being logged into Meso. I guess you > > > do need to be a member. Guest guest
: What does " DO " stand for? That is in your title and I have seen that in several other places. Thanks! Guest guest
" Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine " . We learn, and do, all that MD's do, plus about 25% more, since we are trained in structural evaluation and treatment. > > > > > Hehe, I just tried it without being logged into Meso. Guest guest
I always look at it as a medical doctor and a chiropractor all rolled into one. Keep up the great work that you do for men. jkcrisler <doctorjohn@...> wrote: " Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine " .
