" Normal " is over-rated.  Though not that I'd know.  I think normalcy is

something we strive for, but will probably never acheive.  It's like a hope for

something better than what we have now, especially for us.

Re: phuzaxeman 777 and an active lifestyle

>

I was very active my whole life, running, lifting weights, pick up sports,

hiking, and pretty much anything that was considered an active lifestyle. Since

last August, I had a major flare, I have had to adjust my lifestyle

dramatically. I engaged the support of my physiotherapist, a former olympic

athlete, and she helped design a work out routine that utilized 30 minutes of

stretching followed by a workout of light weights, with lots of reps, coupled

with cardio on a stationary bike and/or an elliptical machine. Not only was it

beneficial to my joints, I lost about 25 lbs of muscle mass in the process. It

took a while to get used to the workout routine, but it sure helped with

mobility and the de-stressing of my mind and body.

As for the psychologist, yes I arranged to see a psychologist who validated my

struggles with the disease and that I was approaching the significant life

changes in a healthy way. It was sure nice to get some positive feedback on

something that had altered my life forever. I get down once and awhile, but I

just reflect back on where I was last year and where I am today. I may not be as

active but I am leading a healthy lifestyle within the confines of this dreaded

disease and I keep battling and marching to my own drummer. Hope this helps.
