Guest guest
Hello Ray, This is in Oregon. You asked about kidney's. I have kidney disease due to the auto immune disease. I began with Ulcerative Colitis, but the Dr said it morphed into different auto immune problems, and the kidney's are one that it effects, Well, it effects all of your body for that matter. I am unable to take NSAID's, so I have been on different meds such as Enbrel. With my problems though, with infections, I had to quit. My son also has UC and Ankylosing Spondilitis, he inherited it from me. But he is on Remicade, and it is like a miracle drug. He was all bent over and his hip fused to his spine, and he was bleeding from his colon and about to die. He has lost so much weight and his skin was a waxy gray color. But then when he got on that and Methotrexate, he gained the weight back and is walking around like a 27 year old should be. He was looking 90. He was also loosing his hair, but it has grown back in. The Dr said it would not bother his kidneys unless he has an infection, then they stop the meds, treat the infection, and go back on if you need it. Right now he is in remission. Yeh!!!! But with my body having so many different organs attacked, I cannot use it. I am on Methotrexate, and Low Dose Naltrexone. Also I take Magnesium, and Flexeril. I take a low dose of anti biotics that is just for the kidneys. But I have no problem with it. The Methotrexate is to keep the disease from traveling to another area, or it slows it down. And the Low Dose Naltrexone really helps with pain. It does something to your brain chemistry that makes the feeling of pain not so intense. I also have the Ankylosing Spondilitis, and the Dr gave me Lidoderm Patches to put on my back. Wow, those really help if you have back pain!!! But when I get a kidney infection, it is not from the drugs, it is just the kidney disease acting up. I have Interstitial Cystitis in my bladder(another auto immune disease). It will act up and travel up into my kidneys and make them get infected. I take meds for that too. I have meds for all kinds of things, but they are good on my kidneys and liver. I do take Milk thistle to support my liver. Don't need a big problem with that too. lol I am a walking drug store. My Drs said it is a miracle that I am still alive. They had predicted I wouldn't make it to 40, but I will be 61 in Oct. If you ask your Nephrologists, he would know more about it. I am very close to the Lord, and He is the one who sustains me. He is the great physician. And all the glory is His. Bless you, From: hrnjr@... Many of us do endure repeated flare-ups and continuing problems with this aggravating disease. Wish I had been one of those who had a single flareup and then never had to deal with it again. I've developed some kidney troubles and will no longer be able to take NSAIDs. Guess 33 years of NSAID therapy is over. Does anyone know how the TNF's like Enbrel affect one's kidneys? Guest guest
I have definitely noticed that anything which antagonizes the immune system will cause a flare or a worsening of some kind.....any sort of pathogen (germs, viruses, skin infections, mildly infected wounds, etc) and definitely any kind of significant allergen. - from Maine
