Guest guest
You better believe it. I went from a fit 130 lbs. to 200 lbs in about 2 years. I was in the habit of walking everyday before I got ill. This summer I lost down to 185 and was able to do a walk most every day of 2 1/2 miles. I was as close to remission as I had ever been then. Now I am lucky if I can walk enough around a Super Target to buy groceries. I have to clean our small townhome in 3 days. I do a floor a day. We moved from Texas last April to Minnesota. The cold winter has about done me in. I did quit smoking recently though. We have never smoked in our house and it is too cold to smoke outside so I got on Chantix and quit smoking on Nov. 27. Joy Who cant lose weight due to Meds? Guest guest
Joy, how do you get your weight to move down. I have gained 100 Lbs in 7 years. When my immune system went out of remission and I had to be on prednisone and other drugs, I can have a liquid diet or a very low rice diet, and don't loose any. I really can't exercise anymore. I did it daily until my knees now need replacing, and all of my joints are getting bad from this stupid disease. I am going blind, and have to ride in an electric wheelchair. Life sucks when all of your activities are TV and computer. I have always been really active, and traveled and I have 6 kids, and did everything with them. But now I can't and well, now the in laws get them for holidays and going places. I might as well have had no kids. My Drs say now, that being pregnant is a trigger to get the disease to increase the damage. I'm telling you, that if you have this disease and you are a woman, don't plan on having kids, or have one. I have been fighting this for 40 years, and have been in remission for a long time, but it is out of control now, and probably won't go in remission again. I am glad you can loose that weight. I use to loose it too, and lift weights and run and do all of those things, now it's over. My body just fell apart. God bless everyone of you. Hugs, D. Oregon From: txjoyd@... Guest guest
> HI Dawn Im glad I began this question about Who can lose weight and who cant etc, Ive been struggling for 5 weeks to lose weight, in the past i would have lost a stone by now, with exercise of course, so I felt low and put out a message to everyone on here if they are experiencing the same problem as me, i.e. weight gain, etc and barely No weight loss, I thought I was being stupid asking such a question, but infact im glad I did, because at least I now understand that Im not alone in this, and its due to our Meds and lack of exercise..... By the way Dawn I have Reiters Disease, with Inflamatory bowel disease, which has lead on to me having knee and spine surgery, my back is terrible at the mo and on Tues 24th Im going in for another spinal Probe, in the hope that it is the correct disc, if it is, then I will be having more surgery, I will do anything to get better pain relief, My discs by the way are crumbling, as they have in my neck also.....Hey ho, Im like you, Wont give up because I cant afford to, or Id sink.... Take care Jill UK
Guest guest
I got my weight down by eating only 1500 calories a day and walking between a mile and 2 1/2 miles a day at least 5 times a week. It is so cold here that I have been in a flare since the last of November. I am basically trapped in the house till spring. So I gained everything I lost back. Also when it is cold and I am flaring I tend to turn to comfort foods like chicken fried steak, enchiladas, beef stew and homemade mac n cheese. None of that is diet friendly. I think I will loose the weight again this summer. I am considering getting the lapband procedure because I can't seem to get below 182 no matter what I do. I too miss my life from before. That is the worse thing about the disease for me. I miss being fit and exercising. Miss wearing cute high heels and cute clothes. Miss being able to do what I want to. Now I just try to stay positive and cope with it day to day. We have our grandson living with us. He has Asperger's which causes lots of problems. He is very intelligent but very immature socially. His teacher tells is he is brilliant. He goes to a special class for kids with behavior problems and emotional problems . He does regular class work but also works on social skills. Everything is modified to work for him. 6 other little boys in his class. So I have to stay positive for him. Joy Re: Who cant lose weight due to Meds? You better believe it. Guest guest
Has anyone seen the infomercial for that chair that has resistance bands, so you can exercise in a seated position? It also has two optional attachments - bicycle wheels, so you can pedal while seated, and an overhead attachment for bands, so you can pull from above. I know it's an infomercial, but I thought about this thread when I saw it. Who knows, it might be at least a partial solution for the inability to exercise due to these problems. My boyfriend is the one that I subscribe to this list for - he has AS. But I can relate to this problem - when I go on an exercise program, I get those PVCs - irregular heartbeats that aren't supposed to be dangerous (who really knows) but are very annoying. Especially if I try to work with weights. It really is a dilemma. Good luck to everyone. Love, Lana _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live™: E-mail. Chat. Guest guest
Good to hear your son is doing well. They are testing Kendall for a gifted and talented program which should challenge him a little more. He won't leave his class for behaviorally disturbed kids but his work will be more challenging. He is reading on about a fourth grade level now. Kendall also has asthma and allergies. He is basically healthy though. My back has been very bad lately. I can only stand or walk for 15 minutes. So my housework gets done in 15 min. bursts. So I symphatize about the back pain. Joy From: jill.drake@...
