Guest guest
Hello all. I'm 28 and had my first reactive arthritis flare up following a bout of food poisoning last May. The initial bout was no fun as it hit so many joints right away (both knees, both ankles, both elbows, two fingers on each hand) and I had to be hospitalized because of the high fever. Over the 5 months I've been getting better (although all of my joints remain swollen they don't bother me much anymore) but I've just recently had food poisoning again and am really worried that this might trigger a renewed immune reaction. I'm hoping that some of you might know if there's anything I should be doing at this point. I've made a doctor appointment but she can't see me for a week, and she's just a general practitioner not a rheumy. A big concern is that while I currently have free health care because I'm a student in the UK, I'm going home to California for the summer where I'll have no money, no job, and no health insurance if I should need to be hospitalized again. Should I push for low level antibiotics while I'm still in the uK? Put my trip off all together?? I'd really appreciate any advice you can give!
