Guest guest
not sure if it is reactive arthritis but it sounds pretty bad whatever it is. basically to diagnose reactive arthritis, youll need to have one of your knees aspirated (ie send the build up of fluid for tests) also youll need to have a blood test to see if your white blood cell count is up.. never heard of the electrical shock thing before, and ive spoken to some of the best consultants in the world (chelsea westminster in london) trawled the internet etc. clamydia can trigger reactive arthritis, as can food posioning and the tingling in your eye is also a symptom (look up retiers syndrome). hope this helps.   From: liptoncoffee <liptoncoffee@...> Subject: Is this reactive arthirits Date: Saturday, 6 February, 2010, 11:54  I hope you can help me by answering my questions. I contacted NGU through unprotected sex with one of my gfs. Feeling burning testicle, pain in urethra and back of the thigh tightening .I was given azithromycin 1 gram oral to take. First week after taking the azithromycin the pain all gone but during the 2nd week I encountered electrical shock( comes and goes) all over my body. Buring pain in testicle also came back. Went back to the clinic for a review and check the NGU bateraia is still there. Got prescribed me metronidazole and erythromycin. After taking metronidazole experience severe elecrical shock all over body. 2 weeks passed. Went back clinic and check for NGU baterica is fine. But I still experience pain in the urethra sometimes. The pain is not when I urinate, the pain it is just there. I also feel sharp pain on the back of both my knees. After 1 week the pain at the back of my knee gone but tingling and pin and needle started on my knee. I saw a Neuro and was given neuroforte. The pin and needle sensation went off after 1 week + and move to both my feet now. Just recently the pin and needle happen on my right hand and just few days ago started on my left hand also. The pin and needle sensation just stay there forever. right now both my feets and hands are feeling pin and needle all day long. I can also feel and virtually see my arties on my wrist and elbow move. It is jumping(pulse) and slowly subsided. I also feel it on my legs, back, buttock. I am feeling very tired recently and all I want to do is sleep. I just want to know beside STD and HIV ( I tested negative after 3 mths) wat else of nerve or artry diesase can pass through by sexual intercouse. What is causing my arties to jump or move on my elbow, wrist, back and legs? I also experience tingling sensation below my right eye. I got this artey pain on the back of both my knee for 2 mths +. x ray on neck, back done and normal. Check for vitame and Diabeites doen neagtive. Pls tell me what can i do becuse my neuro is running out of idea and she also rejected me for a MRI. Is this reactive arthirits? I got this spider web feeling on my knees, foot and elbow and wrist. Guest guest
Thansk for telling me how to diagnose reactive arthritis. I went to a private doctor and he ask me to take the blood test of HBL B27 but it is very expensive and I declined to take it there. Can you tell me which doctor I should go to ? A rheumatologist or a neurologist? Guest guest
I had symptoms of ra in 2000, but I got really sick and came down with reiters syndrome in 2004. The rheumatologist did the test for hla-b27 and I was reactive, which means I had the gene mutation. My reiters was so bad I broke out in spots all over my body over night and got so sick i could barely move. it is now 6 years later and i am in severe pain, I have trouble moving through the day. wikipedia does a good job of explaining it if you haven't gotten a good explanation yet, here is the link.\ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reiters_Syndrome http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HLA-B27 > > > > > > From: liptoncoffee <liptoncoffee@> > > Subject: Is this reactive arthirits > > > > Date: Saturday, 6 February, 2010, 11:54 > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > I hope you can help me by answering my questions. Guest guest
Hi adgp9, How do you check for chlamydia in the knee joint? I been to 3x to clinic and they took my urine to test for chlamydia and all 3x are negative. What are the antibotic medicines you are taking now? The only 1 that I never take is Doxycycline. What i left out is the constant muscle twitching I encountering. The pain in uerathra is still bothering me abit. It is so sad because I really like this girl and got the intention of marrying her. Think i will need to forget her. > > liptoncoffee > The symptons you describe are part of everyday life for me. I also took metronidazole for it and had the electrical shocks. I was diagnosed with reactive arthritis ReA a couple years ago. I also went to Mayo Clinic for this. The primary care dr sent me to an infectious disease dr after it was found that I had a elevated prostate specific antigen psa. I've had many things described by ReA sufferers. Bad pain, moon face, red spots, ears ring, eye floaters, teeth hurt, swollen joints, sore hind end, hair lose, morning stiffness to name a few. The ID dr, Randall S Edson, told me he thought I had an infection. I had previously had a chlamydia infection, ( 15 years prior) but he said he didn't think it was chlamydia. He said he had seen people with chlamydia. I told him I almost got rid of this a couple different times with antibiotics. I told him I think all these weird feeling I'm having are all caused by the same thing and he agreed with me. He asked me if I had tried a combination of drugs. I had testing done after that that showed I had chlamydia in my knee joint, so I think he was wrong. I think your having the same problem I am having. From what this dr said I think that many infections act this way and wonder if other people don't just have an infection? I have been taking minocycline for a couple years. I have pain but it is not as relentless as it used to be. I get up in the morning without the stiffness. I got my insurance to pay for the name brand minocin which I took before and think it works better. When I take antibiotics my blood pressure is very good. When I was at my worse my blood pressure was 182/92. Before I found a doctor togive me the antibiotics I had a pain in my chest, it felt like an arrow was through me. If I touched my back it hurt on my chest and vice versa. Since on antibiotics this has improved. Many people talk of being allergic to antibiotics because they get sick. This has happened to me before. For me I think it was the drugs killing the chlamydia. The minocin made me very sick the first time I took it, the dr said if I was allergic it usually makes your gums blue. This did not happen. The metronidazole just destroys what I have. That is the electrical shocks I feel.I don't think the drug is very good for you thought. I've tried other antibiotic with good results. But I would get cut off and when I would find more they didn't work as good the second time. My psa has also improved when I take antibiotics. I also had high liver enzymes that are normal now. Adr said this is proof I have an infection. My present dr told me I will have to take antibiotics the rest of my life, I agree with him. It took 15 years for things to show up on tests. > Sorry the letter is not very well writen. > Dan in WI > I think if we could chart our different symptoms that we would fall into different catagories based on what has caused our ReA. Guest guest
Hi adgp9, You mean you tested positive for chlamydia in the knee joint after 15 yrs??? i just cant beleive that someone got to take antobiotic for the rest of the life. Guest guest
Hi Liptoncoffee My knee was checked for chlamydia as part of a study on reactive arthritis. The tests are not something that can be done at an ordinary lab. The only time I tested pos for chlamydia was when I first got infected, it was a swab and a culture. I have been tested many times since with many different kinds of chlamydia tests which all were neg. If I knew how to get your email address I could forward you the study results. I am taking minocin 100mg 2 times a day. I also know about the muscle twitching. Sometimes it feels as if someone has punched me. The worse time was with my shoulder. It jerked as if I were pulling a rope to start a lawn mower. I don't have any proof but my guess is the muscle is just trying to get it out. Guest guest
Liptoncoffee You asked if I tested pos after 15 years? It was more like 18, but yes. The infection had gotten to my blood. I have discussed this with many drs and I think their is little doubt about it. I think this is what happened to you and I don't think we are the only 2 people that this has happened to. There are many more people from the study with pos knee biopsys from chlamydia. About the antibiotics for life- I don't want to take any pills. And I don't want to be sick. I've taken antibiotics and I've gotten better, I stop and I get sick. I read wikipedia on reiters. How does a doctor see people get get sick, see some get better and come to the conclusion that the people still sick are having their imune system attacking their bodies. Just doesn't make sense to me. I'm not saying it can't happen, just doesn't make sense. If I had your email I could send you the study I was in. Guest guest
Hi everyone - I've had good luck with all the antibiotics used to treat chlamydia. I think the big problem was I didn't take them long enough and by starting and stopping the same drug they don't work any more. I would suggest the minocin instead of minocycline, if you try. For me, I knew 10 days after I got this std that something had gone wrong. I felt sick as hell. I kind of feel I am an odd ball by knowing exactly when I got ReA. A lot of papers I read say it happens 1-3 weeks after an infection. I also know that you can get chlamydia and not know it. I don't want people to think I am diagnosing them. But I also read that this jerking or twitching that was talked about kind of sealed the deal on ReA. I posted my symptoms to liptoncoffee, do you have simular symptoms? I had bad pain on my sternum the knob next to my throat was killing me. Dr said that was a favorite place for this to hang out. You have problems there? It seems that some people still aren't sure what they have? It took me 20 years to find someone who knew something about this and I think it was easy, obvious I had ReA. I mean its the only thing that can go wrong with chlamydia and other stds don't cause the problems I'm having. I think if you believe you have ReA your going to have to trace it back to an infection or at least an illness. Liptoncoffee- Doxyclicline is ok to take for chlamydia. I can't say you have it only that you sound an awful like I do. Do you have other symptoms I mentioned? Has you girlfriend tested pos for stds? The best advice I can give you is you do not want to end up like me!! If I could go back I would have taken doxy for 3 months. If I was feeling better I would take it for another 3 months. If I thought I was cured I would take it for another 3 months. You must remember that this is what I would, someone who has been sick for 23 years. I don't know anything about the cdif you talk about. I recently said I didn't think ReA was caused by an abnormal immune system and I didn't want people to think I was criticzing the treatment the were doing. Hope for the best, plan for the worst. I did 3 urine culture check and said chlamydia is negative! I am totally lost now. Guest guest
Hi Adgp9, I just came back visit my neuro doctor and she suspect what Im having is reactive arthritis and ask me to look for a rheumatologist. I got no pain on sternum the knob next to my throat. What i am having is 1)constant sharp pain on the back of my knees( popliteal fossa). It is like someone wants to pull my vein out. 2)spider web feeling on my knee cap and sometimes wrist. 3) pins and needles on feet and hands. 4) body twitching include face also. I hope those suffer from reactive arthritis can post their symptoms. In my country, If you are tested postive for NGU (check by insert tube in ur penis) they will give you 1 shot of azithromycin (1gram oral) and if it cant cure you they will give you metronidazole and erythromycin. I feel so sad that sometimes I cry for a guy like me... Why am I suffer all these. I never do anything wrong. Guest guest
Hi adgp9, what I did was only Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) urine test for chlamydia. Pls name out the 6 things that cause reactivr arthritis. Pls help me > > Myndi > I'm assuming your son has symptoms of ReA? If so, I can suggest a test. Its called a chlamydia serology (blood test). It will detect if he has been exposed to chlamydia trachomatis (std) or chlamydia pneumonia. What he has may not be a std but it could be from pneumonia. It tests for antibodies, simular to the way they test for flu. At any rate it will show what his problems are not from if its neg. A chlamydia pneumonia can cause something as simple as a cough, bronchatis. It will rule out 2 of the 5 or 6 things known to cause ReA. I have IGG antibodies to chlamydia which is an indication of past or present infection. I think everyone should have the test if you suspect ReA. > Dan in WI > >

I am the unlucky one. > > Lipton, part of having Reiter's is that you can have a bacterial infection from an std or food poisioning and then AFTER the infection has GONE you the get RA..can be upto 6 months AFTER the infection has been cleared up etc. it is bloody annoying and doesnt make much sense to anyone, doctors and professor's included. there is no 'cure' just various drugs to take to calm the symptoms (like RA) down or cream for your skin if you have skin problems because of 'it' etc. And then hope that the condition goes of its own accord. i took sulfasalzine which cleared up the RA after about 3 months..and had to stay on it for another 18months then slowly came off it, and was ok...for about 5 years until i had clamydia again, but this time i acted more quickly as i knew what it was etc and took various drugs steroid injections etc pretty much instantly and it seems to have cleared up. once it goes (and whilst you have it) just make sure you dont have > unprotected sex again unless you are absolutely sure the person has had a full check up that you know them etc as another infection will probably set it off again. >
