Guest guest
Hi everyone, well my experiment with Facebook was a flop! I've deactivated it. But that's okay it's not my first and sure won't be my last. :-) ... and to prove it I'm on to something new. I think it'll go over better. http://twitter.com/risgorg Yep, if you have a twitter account you van follow us there too. The weekly current news is already being posted there and I'm sure there will be a few other announcements as time goes by. So don't hesitate to follow us! Guest guest
What made your experiment with Facebook a flop, Rick?! Perhaps I/we (the " we " being my company, Xerces Partners which among other things does social networking consulting/marketing help) can do something to help? Obviously it would be free of charge....anything that I can do to help fellow sufferers is important to me. Going with Twitter is certainly a good option, but you don't have to choose! You can use " meta-social " sites like FriendFeed to work with multiple socialnets at once and engage with even more people, without much extra effort.... I personally also like Brightkite because it's location-based (very slick for those who own GPS-equipped phones, and even those who don't!) plus there are lots of particularly cool people there. I won't insult/abuse the list by promoting my companies or their services, but if anyone needs help with socialnet stuff or just about anything else, I'm always happy to lend a hand to fellow sufferers. Anything to help push the cause forward, educate more people, and make our lives even a little bit easier! :-) - from Maine
Guest guest
Thanks Rayn, but I don't think that's the problem. While I'm all for getting the word out my intent was to create a situation where member could get to know each other in a more personal one on one basis. Our just group isn't setup that way. I suppose if members wanted to use there own facebook page they could just give the group their URL and let the member take it fom there. Thanks for the offer though. I do appreciate it. God Bless. Guest guest
Hi Rick, I don't think it was a flop. I found RISG and yourself through Facebook. Facebook is weird, a lot of professionals use it as a networking tool. I used it a lot and now that I'm retired I still use it. However when I was working and I needed to find someone with a special skill, Facebook was usually my best bet. The thing about Facebook is that it's weird. The search tool doesn't use what is on your Wall at all. Or more accurately, it doesn't search the words on your Wall very well. I It was designed by a guy who didn't have a lot of computing skill so if you want to be found, you have to put a lot of words in the reference list window, it's just one very small window and a lot of people just put a couple of words. If you want hits you have to put as many words as you can think of in that window including synonyms, the search function is very literal. So you might have to put word like: Arthritis, Chronic Pain, Reiters, Reactive Arthritis, Rheumatology, Self Help, Support Group, Internet Support Group, etc. etc. all in that window. Also Facebook takes time to work, it's really not programmed that well and the cross-referencing program takes about two weeks to work through everything. It may be that you didn't give it enough time. Just thought I'd passs it along. Facebook is excellent when it does start to work. People like it a lot better than Google because Google gives them everything, but once they learn Facebook's quirks, Facebook gives you only Walls that are close to what you are looking for. Anyway, good luck, I don't think it was a flop, it was just Facebook being Facebook. M.
