Guest guest
Hello That's one of the generic names for an early ACE inhibitor, the other common name for it is Accupril. It is considered " renal protective " which means that it helps prevent further damage to the delicate membranes of your kidney in the same manner that it relaxes the blood vessel walls to reduce blood pressure. In truth, they don't know how these ACE inhibitors work but they seem to do a lot of good stuff. They also make you cough... There are newer higher tech versions like Cozaar which are expensive but some Doctors prefer the first generation of ACE inhibitors since so much of the process is not understood so the high tech ones may miss out on something beneficial. My Doctor has me on both Cozaar and Accupril even though recent studies have shown that to be counter productive with CHF patients, we started on that route before the study came out and he doesn't want to change because I've been doing well on it so he figures it's maybe because of some action that they haven't figured out or even suspected yet. Changing all the meds like that is a bit risky, I guess they thought they had to protect the kidneys quickly. Regards, Don and wrote: > I went to the doctor today for my kidney meds. Guest guest
Tina, I sure hope they figure out what's going on. My sister and I aren't diabetic, but we could have written that paragraph about Bob ourselves. About a year ago, it started hitting me (not being able to process sugars). If I had a smaller amount of sugar with a lot of protein, I was okay. Otherwise, I felt pretty awful--exactly what you're describing. So one night, I'm talking to my sis and she says, " Oh, I've been that way for about 3 years now. " She's not even very overweight--maybe 10 pounds? Anyway, I just watch my sugar intake now. And what's really thrown me for a loop in this whole thing is that I don't even really like sugar anymore. I got the boys a small package of M & Ms (it's bribery for when they need haircuts) and I popped two into my mouth and I thought, " What's the big deal? These aren't that good. " A year ago I would've bought myself a package and loved every one Neither of us have a formal explaination for why we feel that way after eating sugar, but we do. We have both tested negative for diabetes. *shrugs* My dad always does that little thing...um, something like " Doctor, my head hurts when I pound it against the wall. What should I do? " " Stop pounding it against the wall. " :-) So that's been our approach. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you test negative for diabetes. -Bonnie

Reactive hypoglycemia. We were just talking about it on the list last week. > So he sent me to the lab to do a glucose > tolerant test where I drink this stuff and wait an hour and give blood. Just one hour?? That's not going to show hypoglycemia! You need *minimal* the 3 hour test, ideally the 5 hour one. All the one hour one is going to show is a normal fasting glucose and a sky high one hour reading. >Im hoping its nothing > serious. I have diabetes in my family. But he did say I might not have it but > just be a type of person that cant eat sugar. You would be best off following a diet that restricts sugars from all sources, including white flour, white rice, eat. Food plans like Sugar Busters and South Beach - phase 2 and on - are ideal. Some sensitive people even get those reactions after eating artificial sweeteners, too, so be on the lookout. >But this just started all of a > sudden. That's how mine started 23 years ago - one day I was fine and dandy, the next I was being wheeled into the emergency room after eating the same foods. Over the years I've had 3 GTT's, too many lab-drawn blood sugars to count and have my own glucose monitor to keep an eye on my readings at home. > Im hoping like I said its nothing serious. As long as you avoid sugar and white and folow a low glycemic index food plan you'll be fine. It may take some experimenting to find out what foods, even those allowed on the food plan, adversely affect you, but once you know what to avoid and stay away from them, your symptoms should be well controlled. We have a few Sugar Buster links in our Links section, so why not wander over and visit a few places. > Hes also sending me to > the Dietitian tomorrow to talk to them. Ah, I see you wrote this yesterday so the appointment is today. Be sure to bring a pad and pen to take notes, and if you see this before you go, look over the low glycemic index food plans so you know what to expect from the dietician and you can ask questions. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I thought that I would let ya'll know what happened at the doctor office yesterday when I did my follow up. I explained to him that even though he had placed me on a seven day course of steriods and also a treatment of Cymbalta twice a day that I was no better in some ways. That in fact my shoulders, recently it has been both when normally it is just the left one, went on a tear. Even though at the time in the office my shoulders were doing a lot better, I was still suffering from pain and stiffness in them. Of course I mentioned that I was doing some minor shoulder excerises to help keep them mobile. I also informed him that even though my shoulders had improved that I was now having problems with my neck. I had barely got any sleep the night before even though I had taken two 5/500 hydrocondones. Mostly in the area right below my skull and at that point I turned my head my neck popped three times in a row. Lovely little sound!! Plus even though it didn't make since I felt like my bones in my back and neck were hot. That even though my skin didn't feel hot I could feel the heat inside me. He explained that was the inflammation that I was feeling and that it did make since which I was relieved since I thought that he was going to tell me that it was all in my head. He had told me that before we found out that I had Reiter's Syndrome. Well, he decided that my Azulfidine was not working especially since we are 8 months into the treatment my problems have not all gone away, that he needed to call the specialist that I am suppose to see in October of this year. He comes back and informs me that he and the other doctor agreed that I was really no better. So they decided to take me off of the Azulfidine and put me on methatrexate at 15 MG once a week and that I also need to take Folic Acid everyday supposely to help with some of the symptoms even though it was still going to make me sick for a day or two. They also put me back onto Naproxen 500 MG that I will take twice a day. My doctor is hoping that this will help make a difference in my treatment since he feels that up to this point we have not really made a dent in my disease. That we just pushed it back some but not enough. Because if this doesn't work he mentioned about the TNF shots, I dont know if that is what you call them but I know what he is talking about. And he is concern about me making it to that point because he knows that I have no medical insurance and that I am having to pay for everything with cash which means my medical bills are stacking up. I can barely pay for my medication! He still believes that I can work 20 hours a week with restrictions even though I informed him that I have yet to have anyone hire me even though I have been looking since last August for a job. But, he definetly believes that there is no way at this time that I can work a full time job and that if I go back to working full time I will have a total relaspe to the point of where I was back last August. I don't want to go back to that point again. I could barely walk and trying to lay down was just as painful as trying to walk. I thought child birth was bad - it can't even touch what I went through last August on the pain scale! Like I mentioned earlier, I informed him that my shoulders seemed to be doing better, however, this morning I am thinking that I should have kept my mouth shut because they are both on a tear again this morning and I am out of my hydrocodone and I know he is not going to want to prescribe me any more. I took the last dose last night because of my back and my neck after I had stood and cook dinner for my family. I am so frustrated!! Cooking a simple dinner for my family or even sweeping the floor causes my pain to increase! This is really effecting my life in a lot of areas which has put a dent in my pride since I am so use to doing all these things on my own and here over the last eight months I am finding more and more things, simple little everyday things, that cause me more pain or cause very uncomfortable pressure in my back. Heck I even dread bending over to just pick something off the floor or to get a pot out of the bottom cabinet. Plus this condition has put somewhat of a strain on my relationship with my boyfriend. And I don't even want to think about my grandmother.....and how I am now having to tell her no more about me doing things for her that I use to do. I feel that there seems to be no end in sight. Guest guest
Barbara, Glad to hear they started you on metho. Although, that is a low dose. Maybe they will bump you up as you get use to it. At least you know that they are treating the disease and not just masking the pain. It takes a while for it to build up.....so be patient. I know it is hard...I have not been as patient as I need to be. I also am having neck problems. The pain was unreal about 4 months ago. Now, it is just really stiff. I have the popping and grinding sensation when I move my head. I am considering a cortizone shot in the neck. When I am over active, it takes me about 3 days to recover. It is stressful on a relationship. My wife has had to do many common chores for me.....and forget about intimacy. Up until about a month ago, I did not want to be touched. My daughter is 6 years old. She is wanting to fly kites and play ball in the yard. I have been playing with her, but I pay for it for the next 3 days. Hang in there!! Guest guest
Lance, I was dealing with the neck stuff which turned into headaches 5-6 times a week after Christmas and hadn't changed any meds in a while, the RH doctor suggested trying a different antiinflamatory so I tried Salsalate and along with the metho and immuran, it works really great! Just a thought. Kathy from WI RS/AS, etc.
