Guest guest
Have you had your B12 checked? It needs to be over 500. I recommend sleeping in and taking it easy when ever you can. It is frustrating, but going the other way can make it worse. I also recommend getting your thyroid checked too. Kate G Hashi's AS
Guest guest
My Dr. prescribed something called Provigil. 1/2 a tab works very well. Can't drink caffine when taking it though. Joy in Dallas Energy Levels? Has anyone managed to find something that fights the fatigue that comes along with spondy? I can't tolerate caffeine or ginseng, and I've tried those Emergen-C drink packets but they don't help at all. I'm desperate to find something to keep me alert for more than 4 hours a day! Thanks, ~
Guest guest
I recently read that L-Glutamine can help with fatigue. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, and helps reduce stomach/intestine inflammation in people with Chron's or IBD. It is a natural amino acid that gets depleted in people who are injured or sick. Check out the literature and make a decision for yourself. I would also try a natural remedy first. Guest guest
I've had both my B12 levels and my thyroid checked and my doctor said they are both normal...I was almost hoping it was a B12 issue since that would be easily remedied (and I figured that's what it was because my diet isn't great do to my Crohn's limiting what I am able to eat)! I have heard about Provigil and like the fact that it's not an amphetamine like most of the drugs they prescribe for energy problems. Maybe I will ask about it at my next appointment. I've tried to tell my doctor that the fatigue is worse than the pain lately since I'm used to the pain, but she doesn't address it, so I guess I have to be more forceful about the matter. Are there any unpleasant side effects with Provigil? ~
Guest guest
I take Provigil occasionally. You'll need an understanding doctor to prescribe. I feel great all day. But when I try to sleep at night. I can't. The first night I tried ProVig I was up until 3AM. So I'll either try to eat myself to sleep or take another drug to put me to sleep. Not a cycle you want to get into. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ You rock. Guest guest
, Get a copy of your labs. You have a right to them and you need to look at the numbers. The range on the B12 labs is as low as 300, but I you do research you will find that B12 needs to be over 500. Also so many labs are using the outdated TSH range. Make sure they ran the Free's and the antibodies. Please, don't ever settle for " normal " . You are not a setting on a washing machine. Other than fatigue what are your symptoms? Guest guest
My energy levels are the pits on some days but rather than medication I do a sleepathon. In other words I do not fight the urge to sleep and after about 24 hours straight sleep I am up and roaring for another couple of days. I have stopped trying to pin the blame for my low energy levels on any one thing because just about every spondy and other disease I have do have low energy levels associated with them. At the same time, much of the medication I am on also creates sleepiness. I just have to make sure I am not driving when I feel tired. For me Diabetes is one of the worst culprits followed by the constant pain which is enough to wear the strongest amongst us down. Blessings Fr. Guest guest
I'll reply to a few messages at once: >My energy levels are the pits on some days but rather than >medication I do a sleepathon. It's not that I don't sleep, I just wake up exhausted all the time. Just the energy exerted in getting out of bed, taking a shower and getting dressed are enough to wear me out some days. That makes paying attention in class difficult because I'm concentrating so hard on staying conscious. And while I am tired, it's more of a mental fog than a sleepiness---does that make any sense? Sorry, I am not sure how to describe the feeling very well. ~
Guest guest
Hi guys. I have just been diagnosed with adrenal fatigue. Sounds funny but it is for real. I have been so tired for so long and finally i have an answer!! All I had to do was take a blood test. I looked on line and I had all the symptoms and imagine this.....It happends to people with auto immune disease and also people who have taken prolonged courses of steroids. Your adrenal glands dont work as well as they used to and other than fatigue I am getting headaches to the point where I feel like I shot myself....not fun. I see my doctor again in a week. Hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel as to I cannot take much more of this. I have missed so much work recently and am so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I will be 36 this month and work in Surgery as a Scrub Nurse here in California....I am a single mom of a beautiful 9 year old little girl and I cannot just give up....I need to keep going!! I feel blessed that my boss is understanding of AS as to his brother has a spondy and he has not given me the boot. Good luck and KICK AS!!!!
