Guest guest
Hello to Group Members! I was diagnosed this week, so I'm in stages of grief such as disbelief, sadness and anger! Just wanted to connect with others who are in the same situation. I'm on Indomethacin and Doxycycline, and will see a Rheumatologist on Friday. Must have gotten this through ingesting bacteria since I never had chlamydia. Anyone ever get this just briefly and then never have another bout??? I'm hoping that would be me. Any alternative medicines or treatments that worked? Thank you,
Guest guest
Dear , I am so sorry to hear that you have this disease that effects so many of us. Most cases can go into remission within three to six months or even a year. Normally that depends on if you have the HLA-B27 gene and also how long you had the disease before ever being diagnosed. Many of us have had this disease for many years before ever being diagnosed. I am one that my doctor believes that I have had Reiter's Sydrome for many years but due to the lack of symptoms is the reason it took several years before ever getting my diagnoses. It wasn't until I woke up one morning hardly able to straighten up that my doctor finally put two and two together. I have been labled a cronic case because of the fact here it is almost two years later on treatment I have yet to achieve remission. There is no cure for this disease and the only hope is that you may achieve remission that will last for many years. A few people do go into remission and never have another case of this. The only thing we can do is listen to the doctor and our bodies and keep ourselves educated about this disease and new break thru's that come up. Guest guest
> Anyone ever get this just briefly and then never have another bout??? > Thank you, Hi , my name is Rick, I founded RISG after being diagnosed with Reiter's Syndrome (reactive arthritis) about 25 years ago. My first flare lasted about a year and then it went into remission and never returned. Well, a few aches and pains and a bout of Iritis occasionally. Many people ask me what I did to make it happen but the truth is I believe it was an act of God. Whether it was at the time, or before I was born, God gave me what I needed to be able to live in remission all these years. In fact I probably do everything wrong, I don't get near enough sleep, I try to eat better these days but for many years I ate like a teenager. Pizza etc. Gee, that sounds good for tonight! Anyway, the point is some believe that remission can be brought on by what we eat or do but I believe that MOST of the time it's simply our genetic makeup that causes remission. But please don't under estimate the power of prayer. If you don't know God ask him to introduce himself. He did to me! God Bless. Guest guest
Hi Rick, Thank you for your kind reply and personal info. And thank you for starting this support venue! I hope I have a quick remission and never get this again, of course! The Rheumetologist that I saw today ordered more blood tests. I also have a skin rash that he said isn't typical of Reiter's, so hopefully they'll get to the bottom of this for me soon. Thanks again,
