Connie,

I just looked at your china painting and your drawings, and honey,

you don't need any handicap points when it comes to your work..it's

FABULOUS! Your china painting looks like the quality of work you

would see in a store, and your drawings are beautiful. The one of

the baby in the santa hat is just too precious, but you have amazing

talent! If you get any better, you're going to be famous!

But I don't think it's just " old-timers " who push and shove

themselves to go the extra mile. A lot of us who are younger with

chronic illnesses and pain do the same thing. We all have that same

desire to live life to it's fullest, to savor each moment, no matter

what the consequences. There is this " ride " at one of the amusement

parks here in Ohio, where you dive sort of like bungee jumping, but

you are also sort of ricocheted at the same time, so it's like you

are diving and flying at the same time. I want to do that so much,

with my soon to be 14 year old daughter (she's fearless), but I can't

help but wonder what it would do to my back. Should I strap on a

back brace and say " to heck with it " , or would I end up seriously

screwed up?

My mind wants to do a lot of things that my body fights against. In

my mind and heart, I want to get back into doing theater, which I

loved in high school, especially musicals, but there are days that

people twice my age (I'm 35) can run circles around me. And then

there are days that I know I'm overdoing it, but I have no regrets

because it's a moment I'll remember for a lifetime, and it's worth

the pain I'll have afterwards.

We may be 35 years apart in age Connie, but it sounds like we're the

same at heart, but I wish I had HALF the artistic talent that you

have! Guess I will have to stick with my own gifts!

Jen

You are absolutely right, Jen. It is the spirit that keeps us pushing

through no matter the age.

You mentioned the bungy thing...sounds like a blast...even to an old fogey

like me. We have a trampoline type bungee jump in the center of our mall in

Asheville. I love to sit and watch the young people having so much fun. I

guess sometimes we have to sit and enjoy the ride from the sidelines.

Thank you for the nice comments. Porcelain painting is a lost art...very few

teach it anymore. I wish I had kept it up when I was younger...so I would

have more knowledge of it to teach to my children. I've got them doing sketches,

so it may come later on for them. The little girl with the Santa hat is

Caroline, one of my 15 grandchildren. The little one sucking her fingers is her

sister. It is really amazing what genes are passed on. One of my children

sucked the same two fingers...and so did one of my brothers! I hope I didn't

pass on any of the " bad " genes we have in our family

We just picked up my 39 year old son from Chicago....and he is complaining

of lower back pain. I thought that my boys were passed the age of AS

problems...but you never know. It usually shows up in males during their early

twenties. That's when my bothers first showed symptoms. It could be just a disc

problem. If it continues, he will have to be checked. I gave him one of my

Flexeril tablets...and he has been sleeping like a log.

Best regards, Connie
