Guest guest
, I've been on Sulphasalazine EC (2000mg daily) for a total of 6 years. You MUST take food with it, else it will certainly upset your stomach. Taking food with it should be on the drug label... My rheumatologist has me on a 'stomach protector' drug also, to minimise sideeffects (Losec 20mg daily.) I also take an anti-nausea drug, when needed, as I'm also in methotrexate (Domperidone). Guest guest
P.S: You will need patience, as sulphasalazine takes around 3 months to show any effect.
Guest guest
i'm also taking sulfasalazine, for the past 10 years or so. the enteric coated tablets arent that dangerous for the stomach, however they should still be taken with some food and plenty of water. more dangerous to the stomach are other anti inflammatories, such as feldene/voltaren. more important when taking sulfasalazine is to have other bodily functions monitored, liver for example, thru regular blood tests. this comes from my rheumatologist. and sulfasalazine does take some time to work, more than a few days or weeks. i've been on it for ten years as noted, and my condition at least hasnt gotten any worse...... james wjkh@... wrote: , I've been on Sulphasalazine EC (2000mg daily) for a total of 6 years. Guest guest
I have found over the years that having some food in the stomach when you take any medication is a good thing. Even if they medication doesn't call for it. The only medications I do not take with food, are those that I am told specifically to take on an empty stomach. I have had too many dates with that lovely tasting barium mix and later the " scope " so I am careful now. I wish I could take Sulfasalazine, but an allergy to Sulpha drugs puts a big no no on that medication. I have also gotten into the habit of eating a banana when taking most medications. They are not only good for you but the calm the stomach and esophagus down somewhat. Needless to say, folks sort of look at Hazel and I when we are shopping and we are in the process of getting bananas. That " What type of monkey are you feeding at home? " look. Hazel worries when I see that, she thinks I might go into my monkey impressions. Fr. Dave ,_._,___
Guest guest
Thanks. I'll try. <stefrz@...> wrote: , My doctor has suggested that Celebrex is better on the stomach because it has a coating. I am taking the prescription strength Aleve (Naproxin) which doesn't have a coating and does cause GERD-like symptoms. I haven't switched to Celebrex yet though because I am trying to just take Naproxin with food to see how that works out.
