Sara,

Sounds like a dream come true! How wonderful for all of you. Now everyone

will remember how well behaved Elie is, and what wonderful parents you

are. As it should be.

Prayers of thanksgiving and praise going out.

Thanks - the great part is that 3 high school boys - one who is leaving for

college in 2 weeks and the others in 10th and 11th grade now know that a kid

with alphabet labels can also learn - they remember Elie when he ran through the

LR repeatedly without clothes on - even on a date nioght when we had 6 or 8

girls here!!!

Yup - his filthy little white bear whose head comes off so many times we had to

do a tissue transplant to attach the head again and an even more disreputable

looking sock doll in a frightful pink ski suit!! If I had to look at them at

the table- for sure I would have lost my appetite.

I'm jumping on this title since I'm just finding out what were " s good

days in school, in the past.

To all of you who have had sleep apnea studies done with your kids, has any

results come from this. I'm told has mild sleep apnea but his problem

in this new school is he sleeps most of the day. That seems to be his only

problem. After going through boo coos of testing and specialists since

January, come to find out he has Narcolepsy. It seems that he has been

sleeping in school for years and the only reports home about it have been

that it was a good day. Now I know why. They didn't have to deal with him.

I'm so sick of the lack of communication. Now that they're finally

communicating, I'm able to find out wthat there is a problem I never knew

about and act on it to find out what's wrong. Narcolepsy of all things. I

always wondered why he would fall off a bicycle built for two, that only I

would peddle, because he fell asleep. My husband would always ride behind us

to make sure he stayed awake.

Does this call for another diagnosis or symbol? DS/ASD/Narcoleptic?

(mom to 13 DS/ASD/?)

Journals are a problem in our school district. No one likes to admit to

anything and being an instructional assistant in the same district, I am told

you tell the parent nothing. This is tough to deal with on both ends of the

political game. I'm trying to prove now why communication is so essential

for our kids. Thanks.

yes, we've have done the journal notebook since nathan started school at 3yrs

now 8yrs w/ds pdd, and it is very helpful communication tool, our son is

never aloud to sleep at school, with his horrible habits of insomnia, i would

never let that start, and the school is in agreement here too, they let me

know any little thing even if some bad virus or something is going around so

that we may take action. shawna (mom) nathan 8yr w/ds pdd and nicholas 7yrs.

how awful, i hate to think that our school would ever feel this way they are

very open and im a very big part of nathans education, i get very pushy with

them and dont take any crap, and they are very cooperative very little

disputes ever, if i bring up an issue its taken care of immediately or they

find a way to help with the need or issue im targeting. but we all get along

99% of the time id have to say. shawna mom to nathan 8yrs w/ds pdd and

mbrayley your post does bring back memories. yep happened about

three years ago. The path to a great education in the eyes of some

is " like electricity " you take the path of least resistance. Yes I

guess its easy to teach a sleeping child. we send a daily journal to

our childs teacher to learn of daily happening etc. some friends have

had to go as for as stating on iep that child is not allowed to sleep

at school. this we here really works. I state the above because many

kids without your childs condition are allowed to sleep at their

schools. The daily journal used by my wife and our childs teacher is

working great. We met no resistence when we requested this

communication tool. I hope your childs sleep disorder is treatable.

good luck to you!! kkesk

Elie was sleeping an average of 6 hours a WEEK when we sought help because he

woke us constantly for company. That was when the dr. started him on Benadryl

so that we could get some sleep!!

We had a good day (surprise! surprise!) on Monday -- with a few moments of

not so good, but mostly good.

We went to an amusement park. I was sure Ian would not want to ride any

rides, but he loved them. There was one ride I went on with him several

times, and he kept shouting " I'm flying! " gleefully. It was an amazing

experience for me.

a,

I'm finding this new school has alot more concern then this former school.

I'm being told everything, even the good things which is somewhat refreshing.

They draw the line on the aide communicating, who is with him all of the

time, and I would sure like to hear about social situations and how he is

socializing. Their reply to that was that they would have type a

copied sentence on the computer for me if they can get him to comply or stay

awake.

ive gave nathan bendryl everyonce and a great while but he is sick often,

immune defficency problems with his immunoglobins, but we try not to use any

meds if possible, they can interfere with immunity. thats one reason we went

to biobehavioral training with nathan when he was around 3yrs , they dont use

meds, dont get me wrong we have tried many meds to help with the PDD but

mostly have had bad side effects from, only ritalin has worked during the day

for us and keep it low to little and just prn during the summer months.

probably has Sensory issues. My daughter keeps telling me to submit year

long pass costs for an amusement park as an Occupational Therapy expense on our

income tax. Elie goes all charm when he gets to go on ferocious roller

coasters, whip rides, occillatting(sp) rides, etc/
