a, I have been on Prozac for about 5 yrs and would recommend it to anyone

to try. I was on 20mg a day yrs ago to start and went up to 40mg then to 60

mg for a couple of yrs ....the dr tried to take me off it as it is an

expensive drug and tried to put me on Celexa instead...the only problem was I

went right back to being a weepy(all the time...and I do mean all the

time). The Celexa worked faster in my system but was not effective for my

clinical depression...but I did remember telling my dr I felt like I had

emotions for the first time in yrs .....so I went back to it at 40 mg a

day....and I take buspar for anxiety too. At this level of Prozac I feel

fine, and do not feel so plastic.....by the way, when I mentioned to my dr

during the weaning process before about how I felt like I suddenly had

feelings ..she said 4 other patients(females too) said exact same thing

trying to wean off it....she was going to write to manufacturer and let them

know .....anyway good luck on it ...I find it helps me immensely. Judy in AZ

June,

Thanks June. I know it helps and I will eventually put that darned thing

in my mouth. I think what I am nervous about is the fact that I've only

been on the mtx injections for 5 weeks and my liver enzymes are already

elevated. I hate to take another new drug so soon. I'm glad it

has helped you so much.

hugs,

Hi ,I take 20mg Prozac each day and it works well for me.I didn't

know I was depressed but my rheumy saw signs I wasn't aware of. Looking

back I can now see how I was hyper, nasty on many occasions because of

the pain and generally exhibited an unhappy person.

Hugs

Hi, June,

I have had my mad moments, too. You mentioned earlier that you had the

weeps at times. Sounds like me.

I have had trazadone prescribed but refused to take it when I read the

horrific side-effects.

Thanks for the info.

Hi : I had to go back on Prozac last month because of depression. I had

previously taken it for several years . I am manic/depressive and know the

signs so I went back to the dr and told her I needed it again. She has put me

on the new pill once a week 90 mgs. I am feeling less depressed and some of

my energy is returning. Depression comes with RA and dealing the pain and

limitations. Hope it helps you.

  • 4 months later...

The recipe in her book Special Diets for Special kids is best -

it is the simplest and easiest to make and has least allergens. We use

Dari-Free rather than soy as a milk substitute as soy is an allergen for

Chris.

The Bette Hagman recipes are very tasty, but, being designed for Celiacs are

not as " clean " - ie there may be other hidden allergens in them!

prozac

would any of you out there buying Prozac tell me if the generic is available

yet? I know some part of their patent is set to expire soon. Also, on a

totally different subject does anyone have a tasty gluten free machine

bread mix to suggest?? thanks,

In the rest of the world their patent has expired for some years, so North

America cannot be too far behind. When a generic appears sometimes the

cost of original medication goes down which is the only advantage we have

had. Since the trouble with a generic is that with our kids sensitivities,

they don't necessarily work as well, our son was doing nicely on prozac

and had a terrible regression when we changed to the generic. Fortunately

this came right when we changed back to prozac.

I wanted to share our recent experience with

switching from prozac to the generic.

It didn't work for us.

I had thought it was just going to be the same exact

thing... but.. I was told that there is a possibility that

the " fillers " in the generic brand is different.

Now.. just so you don't think that it was a subjective

observation, this is from our ABA notes:

he took the

Mon-Friday: Good week. No real issues (taking Prozac)

Saturday night: no sleep. Woke at 2 am and didn't fall back

asleep until 5 then got up at 6:30. (took generic that morn)

Sunday: a little stimmy like (generic)

Monday & Tuesday: good days. no real issue (I used up some

of our old Prozac)

Wednesday: Best day ever. Really great. Polite. Attentive. (prozac)

Thursday: Stim Machine. thought maybe it was because our

consultant came to observe. (generic)

Friday: stimmy and pissy (generic)

Sat-Sun: stimmy and not sleeping well (generic)

Mon-WEd: a big old grump and stimmy (generic)

Thur-Fri: decrease in stims and a little nicer to be around (prozac)

Sun- polite and no big stims (prozac)

Mon-Wed: happy, polite, no huge stims - just a little inattentive

but the teacher is pondering if he isn't bored because he knows

how to do what she is teaching... (prozac)

Now mind you... I tend to not believe parents when they say

" oh he is better now that he is taking this vitamin or that... "

I sometimes find people's reporting to be waaaaay too subjective.

There is also the placebo effect with parents.

However, I did NOT tell anyone- tutor or teacher about

the brand change. I did not even tell my consultants.

The next question that would come into my head is " is this

a coincidence? " Maybe he was " due " to be a little off and

it happened at the same time as the brand change.

However... I had a few days in between there where I used

up the old prozac and he was " better " .

Anyway, I found this quite fascinating as I never really believed

that my child had any real big " sensitivity " issues. He is

gfcf in a strict way but there were measurable improvements-

(better bowels, no more eczema, etc) If it is a " filler " in the

generic, then I wish I could figure out what it is because

he was definitely OFF.
