tonsilitis/pharyngitis/WHO KNOWS?

hi everyone! i woke up last friday morning with a SEVERE sore throat and by

saturday i felt terrible. my neck was stiff, my glands in my neck were

swollen, my head felt like it was going to " blow off " and i was congested

feeling in my head. i went to a " country, small town " doctor bc i couldn't

wait until monday and he started me on trimox 1000mg 3xday and q-bid twice a

day. by monday, i was feeling worse...certainly not better. i called him

back and he said to give the antibiotics more time. by wednesday, my chest

felt tight and my throat was still " killing me " every time i swallowed. with

absolutely no improvement whatsoever, i called him back...and guess what he

said...give the abx more time! needless to say, on thursday (yesterday), i

went to see someone else. he gave me an injection of levaquin and started me

on omnicef 2xday. he didn't do a culture of my throat or anything, but my

head (and pressure in my sinuses) is feeling a good bit better today...at

least i can function. but my throat is still hurting pretty bad. i know that

our bodies can take longer than " normal " to fight off infection. i have a

couple of questions...has anyone else had this happen to them??? and what

helped if they did (antibiotic)? also, i was wondering...about 5 years ago,

i had a bad staph infection in my throat that took special antibiotics to

clear it up. then, after my hysterectomy 3 yrs ago, i had a severe pelvic

infection (staph...mrsa staph) that also took special medication to clear it

up. should i be concerned that this might also be staph...does anyone know

if my chances are greater than normal to get a staph infection again...since

i've had it before??? any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

oh yeah, i'm also getting a bad yeast infection (in my mouth) from all the

abx...any suggestions on that without having to call the doctor...i hate the

swish n swallow (or spit) nystatin and the diflucan tabs are so expensive.

i've been eating yogurt....can anyone think of anything else i can do to

help it???
