Guest guest
For the a first time study has been published that confirms that food additives do negatively affect normal preschool aged children's behavior. Feel free to forward this to anyone that you think would benefit from this information. From the article linked below: <<The study used the preservative sodium benzoate, a preservative commonly found in fruit drinks and carbonated drinks, and the artificial food colourings sunset yellow, tartrazine, carmoisine, and ponceau.>> I heard about this on Dr. Hoffman's radio show " Health Talk " (WOR710am radio or they WOR also broadcasts over the internet), three days ago, that even normal kids showed aggression, erratic behavior, and hyperactivity after eating these foods. Study published in the Archives of Diseases in Childhood, a UK publication, study was in UK. The study hit the British media the on or about 5/24/04. There were 300 kids in the study, some of which were diagnosed with hyperactivity by doctors, before the study began. Some were not considered hyperactive by doctors before the study. There is now a call to ban these food additives from British schools based on the results of the study. I wonder if in America the same ban will be called for? Better yet, I wonder if this will get the soda and Gatorade vending machines out of American schools? I am sure these ingredients are in the colored juices and Gatorade. Here is a speculation about kids who have been diagnosed as hyperactive or ADD: <<The researchers, from the University of Southampton and St 's Hospital in Britain, cautiously said that if the estimated 15 per cent of children with severe hyperactivity were put on additive-free diets, this prevalence could drop to 6 per cent. Velencia Soutter, a consultant paediatrician at the allergy clinic at Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, said their research had shown that natural flavours – such as those in fruit – also caused hyperactivity.>> Did you also note the part about natural flavors?? Wow. This will be a blow to parents who use fruit juices, even " organic " or " natural " juices that have natural flavors, and (as summer approaches), use popsicles and such with natural flavors. Brings me back to the notion that whole foods in as close to their natural state as possible is best! Seems pretty in line with the BTD. I have not heard this hit the mainstream media yet. So far, using Google news, found this article, internet is in an Australian publication, see here: http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,9684961%255E23 289,00.html or try this if link broken by : http://tinyurl.com/2kehm There are some British newspaper stories online and I did find one webMD article. Where is the outcry from America? Will there be one? I doubt it.
