Guest guest
To All, Has anyone gotten good results from switching from Celebrex to Vioxx? I've been on Celebrex for years and I have constant flares on it...and am thinking to switch to Vioxx. Also, has anyone had blood pressure spikes while on Vioxx? I don't have high blood pressure but I hear this can be a problem when on it.... Thanks ... Debra!
Guest guest
Debra, Both Celebrex and Vioxx are good meds. I started on Celebrex and went to Vioxx after a couple of years. The Celebrex didn't seem to work anymore and that's when I went on Vioxx, but that only helped for a year and then I didn't feel any relief from it. I have been on Mobic for the last few years and it is still working along with the MTX and Enbrel. My wife has been on all 3 in the last 4 years and now she is on Relafen which seems to helping her. I have hi blood pressure so I can't answer your questioin about that. If you feel you are no longer getting any relief from Celebrex, tell your doctor and let him/her know that you need something else. There are a number of different meds out there and more coming all the time. Good luck. Dick
Guest guest
Debra, Vioxx was almost a deadly drug for me, but I am the only one I know who had the symptoms I had. I know many who use it and are thrilled with the relief from pain it can give. I'd say give it a cautious try and be aware that it can cause extreme fluid retention, a fact I learned after I had the reaction. I gained nearly 30 pounds in less than a week. By the time I got back to the doc's office I could hear gurgling in my lungs. Don't be as stubborn as I am if you have symptoms which are unusual. The doc had also prescribed my first Oxycontin when I was put on Vioxx at the same time. I was so thrilled to be relatively pain free that I didn't dare call the doc for fear that one of the pain relieving meds would be taken away. I had no idea how dangerous my situation was till I was put on 80 mg of Lasix for a few days, What a trip! I hope you will carefully try a new med to see if your flares can be controlled because there might be something out there that will do just what you want. It's also interesting to note that Celebrex did me about as much good as drinking a glass of water, or maybe less. Good luck in your search for new treatment. Guest guest
Debra, For me, Vioxx is a very effective pain medication. The problem is I've been taking 50 mg. and my blood pressure did go up. My blood pressure's controlled by medication now, but I wasn't on blood pressure medicine and my blood pressure was fine before Vioxx. They just restricted my 50 mg. pills to " as needed " and will only give me 60 every 90 days, meaning I can't take it every day. The 25 mg. dose is much safer. I just read an article saying the 50 mg. dose of Vioxx should be taken off the market because it's causing high blood pressure, heart attacks, and heart failure. My heart's fine, it's just my blood pressure went up, probably from the Vioxx. I talked to a doctor who said the qualities of Vioxx that make it more effective for pain relief than Celebrex, are probably the same qualities that make it risky for some people. If you're young with a healthy heart, you probably won't have a problem as long as you stick to the 25 mg. dose. I've come to think of Vioxx as the devil because it's so effective and I can't seem to live without it and it has no obvious side effects that you feel but I keep seeing article after article about the growing evidence of increased hypertension (high blood pressure) and heart problems, particularly with the higher dose. There's just no free ride with these medicines. Regards, Janet in SF
Guest guest
I never had blood pressure problems with Vioxx thank goodness! I actually switched from Vioxx to Celebrex because the Vioxx wasn't doing much for me anymore. Maybe it will work better for you! Guest guest
I had adverse symptoms from long term Vioxx use (1.5 years). It gave me relief but cost me liver problems. Celebrex works too, but sadly I am allergic to Sulpha Drugs I found out after taking my first day's dosage. Hives are not a lot of fun. +Dave
Guest guest
Dear Faye, Please tell me how Enbrel worked for you...I have RS...but I really think this has to be my next option...I can't seem to get well on the pred no matter what and I am flaring (my mouth and throat) every couple days even tho I raise the dose to try and stop it. Thanks...Debra!
Guest guest
To Janet and all I started on Vioxx around four years ago. I'm not sure what miligrams, but it never seemed to do much good. Three years ago I had a heart attack. I quit taking the Vioxx on my own and not too long after I was looking it up on the internet checking out the side effects. There in bold letters along with other symptoms, was heart attacks. Of course with my family history and the fact that I smoked, no one would be convinced that it was a little pill. Doing research on it and knowing how my body was before, I will always think it was the Vioxx and not the other factors. So, as with any drug, I would use caution and pay attention to how you are feeling. Peggy (in California) " , Janet " <jturner@...> wrote: <The 25 mg. dose is much safer.
