Guest guest
Hi Kay, I have the same problem. No solution though other than doing everything that I can to but this disease into remission (rest, drugs, diet and possitive thinking). Fortunatly, only one of my hips bothers me so I roll onto the otherside and try to salvage the nights rest. Good Luck,
Guest guest
I've had the pain you mention for years. The only solution I've found is to sleep in another position. I don't think size matters when it comes to this sort of pain. Rheumy called it trochanteric bursitis the best I remember. She gave a shot into the bursa, but it didn't last and I really didn't get a tremendous amount of relief from the shot I was given. /MI
Guest guest
The extra memory foam mattress pad can help, but to relieve the pain in bed you'll need to go with a 10 inch Tempurpedic mattress plus foundation. The 8 inch is standard. The 10 inch will run more. You want the mattress to support you, but not put any pressure on your resting joints or muscles. The difference between standard mattresses with springs and a memory foam mattress is incredible. Wish I could afford one, myself. Right now I'm sleeping on a 3 inch memory foam pad on the floor. Can't afford anything else until my divorce is finalized...one or two years at the most. Investing in an appropriate mattress is necessary to accomodate your syndrome. Add Fibromyalgia to the mix, like many of us have, and the necessity of a medically appropriate mattress is even more important. Guest guest
An air mattress is another help for the Gimpy Hip Symdrome I forgot till I saw Ray's post --even a camping one will do. When I first moved into my current apt., I used a camping mattress with less air than usual and wasn't really in a hurry to get a mattress for the apt. It works better for me than a regular mattress. I also have a topper but it's so heavy I can't get it into the apt., so it stays in my shack in GA. That way I have something to look forward to when I get to play in the woods instead of working with estate and attorneys as I have for the last several months. I don't even know if my home in the woods is still standing now. Maybe I'll get there again one day soon. - AS/ GA
Guest guest
I would love to have a Tempurpedic mattress. Right now, with a wedding this fall, we can't afford it. I'm sure it would make a difference. Our mattress is about 15 years old. Several years ago I required a steroid injection in my hip because of bursitis. The doctor recommended a water bed. He said it developed from always sleeping on the same side. It was after I had had shoulder surgery. That was when we got the foam pad. It has helped but not enough. I'm surprised at the number of people that experience this problem. Kay
