Guest guest
-- Thank you so much. I thank you for your kind words. As RA is a constant, never ever ending series of 2 steps forward and 4.5 steps backward all the time, I just get fed up easily with setbacks. Thanks, Jon

Guest guest
Jon- Glad to see you posting again - you sounded so discouraged about a month ago with the insurance/doctor fiasco that you had me and others worried. Not happy to see you are having GI problems with even injectable metho trexate. I take metho orally (15mgs all at one time- on Saturday) and - to put this delicately- if that is possible- have lower GI problems - sometimes nearly unexpectedly - sometimes immediately- sometimes later in the week. I take 3 mgs. Folic acid daily - at night. My metho is in the morning. I think I should buy stock in Immodium. Am actually seeing my primary tomorrow about that- my rheumatologist suggested trying something called Reglan. Anyone hear of it?? The methotrexate has done great things and has kept the RA under control. Thanks for the s Hopkins materials and folic acid ( also keeps homocystine levels normal which can reduce the risk of clots) materials. Sorry I am rambling. I am at work and " twirling " ( going from one job and one conversation to another) as usual. Glad to see you back online. I enjoy the dry humor- wish it weren't at your own ( physical ) expense however. Of course I wish that for everyone here.
Guest guest
HI , It's not a JP drain....that would have meant a bigger hole to put in ..and the xray dr wants the surgeon to go in and remove the cyst(it has now been declared a cyst)and put in a Jp drain then...for now I have this same drain with an accordian pump on top , a smaller version of the other drain and it has a spigot I can open and drain whenever I want...it is an easy one to deal with compared to the last ones...but I cant take showers like with the JP drain....but I go to see my surgeon on Monday and we will discuss removal of cyst and JP drain then. For now I am fine.....and hope you feel better soon......Judy in AZ
Guest guest
Judy- So sorry to hear about your new JP drain. Had one after the hysterectomy and hated it. Was so happy after it was out. I was allowed to shower with it in. They changed the dressing around it after the shower. It was out before I went home from hospital. You obviously are having greater drainage from yours. My primary is actually going to give me something called Levbid - with the thought that I could then forget the Immodium. She said since it appears to be IBS- which may or may not be related to the Methotrexate- that it was worth a shot. Said Reglan would have been a major mistake- would make it worse. I shouldn't have lectured Rainy about letting things go so long. I have been having some bladder problems since the surgery which have become a little more than stress incontinence- if you get the picture. I was also thinking of investing in Poise. I finally got sick and tired of nocturnal bathroom trips in partcular - so I had her check that out also. Apparently I still have a pretty gonzo bladder infection- which has never cleared up completely since the surgery. If you'll recall my surgery was Nov 17 and I developed the bladder infection on Thanksgiving. It was treated but probably never completely cleared up and noone " cultured " it. Apparently just because there is no longer overt bleeding - doesn't mean it has cleared up (DUH). They did a culter today and my doc will get the results in 48 hours. In the meanwhile I am on doxycycline. My doctor just shook her head. She said sometimes people with chronic illness develop such good coping skills that they cope too well - even when they don't have to and probably shouldn't. She said that she knows when I say I don't feel well - that something is probably. This woman is a godsend. If I tell her or my rheumatologist - I need pain meds - they know that they are necessary- and just ask me where to call. So Rainy, I need to listen to my own advice. Guest guest
, Reglan can cause irreversible neurological side effects, so I'm glad you aren't going to take it. I hope your problems are cleared up with the AB's. I'm surprised that you weren't rechecked to see if the bladder infection had cleared. When I've had bladder infections, they always checked after my AB's were finished. I'm glad you got to the bottom of this and will be spared the Poises! Lecturing is sometimes what we need to get that extra push to do things we put off. We do it because we care. a ----- Original Message ----- From: k.j.choate@... Guest guest
I agree Rainy. More than once I've been gently prodded into doing things I should do, but needed the " push " . a ----- Original Message ----- From: Rainy Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2001 2:28 AM Subject: Re: [ ] MTX SIDE EFFECTS/PAULA R But that is what is so good about this list. Guest guest
Thanks, a. I read about Reglan after my post and figured I'd stick with my immodium if that is all they had to offer. I have never had a post uti screening to actually see if any bladder infection -ever- was cleared up - or if I did it was many years ago. ( My doctor was very scientific about whether there was kidney involvement - she tapped hard over my kidneys and lower back - said since I didn't hit her back- probably didn't involve my kidneys too.) Doctor thinks that the catheter caused the problem and uti is caused by something somehow drug resistant or at least stubborn- and that it should have been cultured previously. Methotrexate actually limits the ABS I can be put on. The ABs make me feel so lousy until I get used to them that I almost stayed home from work. Note I said almost - considering what I got done I should have been at home. Thanks for your concern. My primary is the kind of woman who considers this stuff a challenge so I am sure she will attempt to chase it down and will check to see if the ABs worked this time. Guest guest
, Having a primary that considers finding answers a challenge, is one that will dig deep. She sounds like she will do all the necessary follow up tests to make sure you are infection free. I had a really bad uti infection that went to my kidneys and liver when I was in my late teens. I'll never forget it. It was really painful and took many courses of ABs to finally clear it up. Hugs, a ----- Original Message ----- From: k.j.choate@... Guest guest
Hope you feel better , a uti really sucks...... & they are probably correct in that the catheter caused it. Once when I was in the hospital, they cathed the wrong " opening " realized their mistake & put it where it belonged without a new set up......can we say UTI????????????? I was sick for a long time. The Reglan was given to me to suppress the stomach cramps that I was having, at that time the diarrhea was not a big problem. I just kept having incredible stomach pains (which eventually turned out to be lupus/ra related) & could not keep any food on my stomach & had home health come in with an iv twice a day......... Love ya, Debs
