Thanks and Peggy, I am definitely going to watch what I eat and the

food from now on. I can understand how it could do serious damage to children

and old people. A strict regime of eating at home for me - at least until the

summer is over.

Well Matt, about a year ago I came down sick in a similiar way. Out of the blue

it hit me. It was the first time in my life I had ever thrown up(honest). I

don't do throw-up. Anyway, it was the throne and the wastepaper basket. I

thought I was going to die. After the second day I was able to keep some ice

down and then slowly started eating again. It could have been the flu-beats me!

I didn't help much, I guess, but I'm sure there are others out there.

Peggy

P.S. I can't seem to erase any of the non-essentials lately off the email.

Sounds like food poisoning to me. I had one that my dad called ptomaine(SP?)

poisoning once as a kid. Road kill would feel better, I'm sure. I pulled so

many muscles that I was sore of a couple of weeks after that one. Different

types of food poisonings are out there, and just because one of them might

be relaitvely mild doesn't mean that they all are. I think my finicky

stoamach has tried all of them at least once. I'll get food poisoning when

nobody else does for some reason.

There are food poisonings that kill and any of them can kill a small child

or older adult whose immune system isn't good as a young adult.

I hope you're through with the rough part of it.

Nasty company for any time of year but the summer is the worst and it's the

easiest time to get the stuff. Even food that you handle carefully might not

have been handled carefully before it gets yo us. I've known entirely too

many ppl with backgrounds in food prep, so I've heard too many horror

stories. Also there are some pretty nasty things shown on some of the news

magazines which make you think awful things ever after when you go out to

eat or even for a drink.

I get this about every 3 months. After a few hours, I am fine.

Matt,

I had attacks like that on a regular basis. I was told by my rheumy that they

were severe flares related to the Reiters. I could mark my calendar about three

times a year and I would not be off more than a week, and wham I would have

violent episodes of diarrhoea , fever, chills, sweats, and an overall lethargic

feeling. Once I went on Remicade the episodes ceased, still have flares but they

are very minor compared to the past. Just a bit of my medical history in hopes

it will shed some lite on your situation.

Bob,

That's very interesting. I've had Reiters since I was 10 and when I was a

teenager, twice a year like clockwork, like you it could be marked on the

calendar, I would get terribly sick with fever, severe cramps, and vomiting

and severe diarrhea. This went on for several years. I'm so glad it

doesn't anymore. But, I always suspected there was a link with the Reiters.

I wish doctors were better at figuring this stuff out. So much of this goes

undocumented or no one makes the link. Now, I get sick every March but with

different things although often it is a stomach flu. This past March I had

projectile vomiting for the first time in my life. Sorry, this isn't

pleasant to read I bet. Anyway, there's something about March, but once a

year is better than twice. Our immune systems are very mysterious things.

I don't recall Adrienne being like clock work...but I do recall her seeming

to get sick... really sick more than her share. We would blame it

on...Pork...don't eat pork, Chinese food.. don't eat chinese food, Too many

Onions, Too

much orange juice/pineapple... etc. I am sure You get the picture.

One time I recall Adrienne going out with a church group on a hike. She

hiked out with a fever of 102. Of course we blamed that one on food

poisioning...

but Adrienne was the only one who got ill.

Now I will have to ponder all those seemingly un connected illnesses....

one...yet.

Adrienne's Mom,

Probably related to the disease. The weird thing is that I don't always

react to a particular item. If I'm generally healthy I can eat all of the

pineapple I want. At other times when I'm dragging a bit, I can eat small

amounts. If I'm down for the count, pineapple is something I don't even

touch. Same with hot peppers, which I love. X used to thoroughly enjoy

having hot peppers grated into mayo and left to steep in the fridge for

about a month. Great with hors d'ouvres and meat sandwches. When we first

started making this treat, I could do the whole procedure myself. As time

progressed I couldn't even clean up the kitchen afterwards--the vapor off of

the peppers triggered such terrible coughing that getting ourside and away

from them was the only relief I got. There were interim stages of course,

but it just shows how these things can go.

I can't eat pork-- at all-- ever. The pain in my joints isn't worth it no

matter how much my mouth is watering right now at the thought of a BLT.

I have lots of triggers, but you get the picture. Sometimes my episodes

coincide with a 'bug' making the rounds, but then there are other times it

seemed I made my own 'bug' that no one else has had.

Janet,

This is ironic, I get sick every Easter. I go to Easter Mass and I will be sick

sure as all get out - usually the next day. Although the severity is not as bad

as it once was. I was Diagnosed about the same time as you, but it was traced

back in my military medical records to early 1974 while doing a tour in the

Middle East. The medical professionals could not put the puzzle together for

over twenty years.

Kindest regards,

I have AS..and My rheumatologist told me I would be

eligible for a trial study in Edmonton for Remacade?

... In AB remacade is covered by Blue Cross for people

with RA and Crohns a special type of Crohns

I have Crohns as well.. and the Gastro guy.. wants me

on Prednisone and azathrisoprene.. and he says I will

get the crohns and arthritis in remission real quick..

I am praying for that..

thanks you guys..

Hi

I know of the trial out of Edmonchuk but can't afford it. I did have

treatment with Pamidronate in another trial by the same doctors, I found out

that if the drug is recognized for use with AS then you have to pay for it

even if in a trial. Our medical plan only covers 80 percent and even with

that Remicade is out of the question, as is Enbrel. We are hoping that

plans by King Ralph to lower drug prices for those of us on fixed incomes,

comes into fruition.

thanks Dave.

It is discouraging to hear your news re the trial

studies. Maybe that is why the Rheumatologist wants

to see me tomorrow. Oh well. The Gastroenterologist

has already put me on Prednisone and azatrithsoprene..

for the next 9 weeks. wish me luck.

I can't thank you enough for your thoughts,

encouragement..and just being there.

Hugs
