Guest guest
Janet, I have had some success with acupuncture; however, I agree with Dave that the electrical stimulation seems to be key. The first time I tried a series of treatments, I went to an internist who incorporated it into his practice. I eventually found a couple who practice traditional Eastern medicine - neither is a licensed physician in the United States, so please make that distinction - working with herbs, acupuncture, reflexology, etc. Within the last 8-10 years, due to their success in the community, they have begun working with an alternative therapies division of a local pain clinic where their practice is incorporated with those of Western (medical) doctors. This also " validates " their work from the standpoint of some insurance companies, so they will pay part of the costs. Another bonus is that a treatment session with an Eastern practitioner can last from an hour to two and a half hours, as opposed to the 15-30 minutes allotted by a conventional medical doctor, resulting in more effective results. Do be aware, if you are in a great deal of pain, it typically takes 5-6 sessions before you feel an appreciable difference. Once you reach that point, there may be a good deal of pain relief. In order to find a practitioner in your area, I would suggest your contacting a local pain clinic to see if they have recommendations. Best of luck to you.
