RE: Requests for help

I would like to come to the defense of those of us that are concerned about

the letter mentioning a " trust " set up for someone that has AS. First, E-mail

fraud coming from Harare, Zimbabwe is almost as common as the Nigerian e-mail

fraud that we get almost daily. Many of the Nigerian scams have been exposed.

These people are now learning to change their requests so that they will be

received by unsuspecting, giving people. I don't know if this request is

sincere,

but in all the years that I've been a member of this group...we have never

received an e-mail mentioning that a trust had been set up for money's on behalf

of someone. You don't set a trust up for " information. " A trust is set up for

donations. This is just my instincts and it is sad for those that may be

sincere. We do have to be careful. As you can see from the link below...there

are

many scam letters from this city in Africa. Best regards, Connie (granny)

In a message dated 4/6/2004 5:35:49 PM Eastern Standard Time,

ppawlacz@... writes:

I am concerned and offended with the only response she did get, and hope

that those comments are addressed and corrected.

In this case I don't think you have to be concerned, as for the addressing,

I'm glad you have a tender heart and ask for an accounting of my remarks, that

is right and proper. But please read the last line and carefully think

about it, that is all I ask. Zimbabwe is a state of civil war, the Government,

controlled by Mugambe is carrying out cleansing of some tribes who do not

happen to be members of the ruling tribe. Zimbabwe has been given rogue-nation

status by the United Nations for human rights violations. Zimbabwe currently

does not receive foreign aid because even physical food and medical supplies

are seized by the government and sold for profit and hard currency outside

Zimbabwe to other nations. I don't know if you read the post all the way

through, but the person claimed " Lawrence " was diagnosed of dying within 2 or 3

years because of AS. This is highly unlikely. She also claimed she had

survived cancer twice both bowel cancer and breast cancer, this indeed would be

a

miracle i any country, especially in Zimbabwe where they have no medical

services to speak of. I know it is good to be tendered hearted, but there is a

class of people who steal from the most needy on the earth. Connie sent a

good post about scams and trust funds. But this is why I used the word

" evil. " and this is what I hope everyone understands. Money sent to this

person

could have been used to help a real sick person or feed a real child -- saving

from her or him from death. A few dollars stolen from you or me doesn't

make much of a difference, but she is stealing the ten cents that could have

saved a child's eye sight -- these are her real victims, not us. M.

I understand the need for the message and it is a good reminder.

However, the message did not ask for money - she only described her

situation, which is very common on this list.

I am concerned and offended with the only response she did get, and hope

that those comments are addressed and corrected.

I read the message again (and continue to disagree) and I know about the

problems in the world, including the scams in Zimbabwe and those right

here in the US. And I stand by my belief that sending her information

about the disease, her only request, was appropriate and is the purpose

of this forum. If I could have provided specific information to her, I

would have; but nothing more. That's why, and I agreed with the

" warning " message being sent so others, who may not know about these

issues, now do.

This forum is precious; a life line to those, including me, that need

it. I appreciate all of the positive exchanges of information I have had

with this group -- when they are in the spirit, and focus on the purpose

of the group.

The Christian faith espouses many positive ways to live and the response

this women received is not on that list.
