Guest guest
I didn't eat very sensibly today--I know I didn't have enough protein...but actually, besides that, I didn't eat any avoids until tonight when I had a piece of egg fritatta that had some cheese in it. I have **terrible** heartburn that won't quit, in spite of antacids and several large glasses of water. Is there anything I can do? Guest guest
Gretchen, What brands and types of antacids did you try? Do you have DGL? It seems to work well for me now. I remember way back when I had one stomache burn that lasted all night. the formacist advided Gaviscon, a green liquid. I'd already taken a bottle and 1/2 of Pepto Bismol and all the antacid pills I could find in my husband's lunch pail. heartburn!! > I didn't eat very sensibly today--I know I didn't have enough protein...but actually, besides that, I didn't eat any avoids until tonight when I had a piece of egg fritatta that had some cheese in it. Guest guest
I've found that chugging a glass of seltzer helps sometimes. Makes you burp and eases some of the pressure. > I didn't eat very sensibly today--I know I didn't have enough protein...but actually, besides that, I didn't eat any avoids until tonight when I had a piece of egg fritatta that had some cheese in it. Especially is you have taken antacids and drank all the water with no improvement. I suggest you try some apple cider vinegar. I find that 95% of the time it works best. 1TB in 1/4 cup water. Do not drink a lot of water with your meal. They also have vinegar tablets and HCL in caps that will do the same thing. Most of the ACID hype is just that - HYPE! Kathy This is why I use Bicarbonate of soda. It is a buffer and will neutralize an acid or a base. You're so right, though, about what is causing the heartburn. All you know is that the pH in your stomach is out of wack.

Guest guest
THe stomach is made for acid. It is a necessary ingredient for proper digestion and absorbtion. It breaks down your proteins whch is what your minerals bind to so they can be absorbed and utilized by the body. Minerals are what help keep your pH balanced. Gretchen ~~ ya know what's funny? i can eat feta cheese, alone or in a salad, and not feel bad at all. i get a burning sensation later, not initially (though there can be a mood/energy burst early) but after 2-3 hours. i've also had those organic sausages, the chicken and feta greek mixes.. just enough feta cheese for taste, you know? but i get that burning sensation, it is worse. i think the feta cheese alone is an acceptable burning, my digestion at work. no pain, no discomfort. but combined with ground turkey in that sausage, i had an upset burning stomach. that's part of why i respect some of the food-combining advice.
