I used duragesic patch for around 2 years. Constipation was the only real

side effect I noticed. I also got an itchy rash on application site. I

drove and did all the normal things. I think I was a little drowsy for the

first couple of weeks as my system adjusted.

Hi Debra,

I've been on the patch for over a year now (going on two)...I'm on 150mg

every 3 days. I have absolutely no problems with them at all and never have.

The only problem I did have was when I took a shower; the tape would come

off. All you do is call the 800# on the back of the package and they will

send you some tegaderm type stuff to cover it for free as long as you're on

the patch. It's helped immensely.

Hope this helps.

Debra ~

I have been on 50 mg every 48 hours for about a year now. [i was on

Oxycontin (90 mg per day) and Kadian (100 mg. timed-release Morphine per

day) prior to switching to the patch.] I'm loving the Duragesic! Like

Dawn, I've had problems with the patches staying stuck but that's a

minor inconvenience. Even the constipation I was experiencing has

lessened with the Duragesic, as opposed to the pills. It took me about

a week to adjust and I function normally while on the patch. A word of

caution though, if I get overheated, more medication is released into my

system and I get drowsy, so I am careful to be " cool " instead of really

warm. Re the nausea, that can be a short term side-effect. My doc gave

me Phenergan and Compazine tabs to keep on hand, along with Scopolamine

patches (like for seasickness). I don't need or use them frequently,

but once in a while, they are helpful.

I'd recommend you try the patches for at least a couple of months if you

can weather it. During that time, have your doctor play with the dosage

and with the frequency of change. I need a much higher dose if I change

every three days, which is the recommended frequency, but if I change

every other day, I can stay on 50 mg.

Best of luck. I hope you find something that works well for you!

Happy Pain-free (or at least minimized!) Holidays to all at RISG!!!
