Hi Again,

When I first started on painkillers I was slightly constipated, meaning I

wasn't pooping as often as before. I took Metamucil for a month, then didn't

need it. Butt.... My turds changed, now they are rock hard . It's funny - you

can hear them bouncing down the sewer pipe. Every third BM, or so, they jam

up at the exit, so I do have to reach back there and pull them out with a

finger. Flushing them down the toilet can get iffy now and then. I don't know

if

it is a national law, but in Michigan they passed a law about 15 years ago,

that when you buy a toilet it has to be one that uses less water. So, I have to

cut the turds into smaller pieces with a steak knife I keep hidden in the

cabinet. I can't complain, it's for the Ecology, ya know. Bye, Harv

Oh Betty.... I am so sorry for you.... butt..giggle giggle. I know how you

feel. I am a single parent and I am living with my parents. My dad (bless his

heart) went to the store to buy me a fleets. He came home with 2. One was

normal sized and the other looked like it was for a large bison. ha ha....I

used the one for the bison...... can I just say....I feel FRESH now.. I still

will not eat anything solid and I have not taken a pain pill in 2 days now. I

hope all is well with you and I think that we both need to remember to take some

stool softeners daily!!!

Be VERY careful about constipation! My hubby just spent eight dfays in the

hospital, on intravenous heavy-duty antibiotic to prevent sepsis because he

was so bound up. It can actually be lethal! These narcotic pain meds can

sure do it to you! I suggest lots of fresh fruit and veggies to help keep

things...hmmmm, flowing? His doctor told him to use metamucil every day, too

And to be sure to drink lots of water daily.

-- Do you poop?

I was severely constipated 2 days ago, because I've been taking 40mg

Oxycontin 6 times/day for the pain of AS, DDD, and herniated discs. I

on my hubby in the hospital! A one quart mixture of ....get this....MOLASSES

AND MILK! They call it a black and white....oh, the trials we with chronic

pain go through....at least we can laugh sometimes.....it makes it easier to

face the rougher days....weeks ....etc....amen?

Let you doctor know, AS yes does affect our bowel. But this also is due to

our diets.

There is something missing in your diet, most likely fibers that is causing

this too.

I have this happen once in a while, I run to the natural food store and buy

papaya pills best thing every. Natural taking care of natural.

There is a prescription laxative that can be taken daily. The name brand is

Miralax but now there is a generic so the price has come down. It is

polyethylene glycol. It is tasteless. You mix it in juice, coffee, whatever

once a day. It is quite effective and can be used daily unlike over-the-counter

laxatives. Kay

I think the other name for this is antifreeze. It will kill a dog. I'd say to be

careful with this one for sure, don' take more than indicated on the package.

You may want to Google this one if you are in doubt.

My husband said that the formula is similar to the formula of anti-freeze.

However anti-freeze is Propylene Glycol (PG) while Miralax is Polyethylene

Glycol (PEG). I'm not a chemist but clearly Miralax is not identical to

anti-freeze. Anyone that has had a colonscopy has probably taken polyethylene

glycol in the form of " Colyte " for bowel cleansing. If you can manage your

constipation by natural means of course that is preferable. Miralax is helpful

for people that have a neurogenic bowel. I suspect it is safer and gentler than

most over-the-counter laxatives. I have never had severe cramping from it.
