Guest guest
For quite awhile (several weeks) I've had coccyx pain. It hurts when I rise from sitting to standing. I don't know if it is related to the Interstim that is implanted in my lower spine. I sometimes find that I sit in a position to avoid pressure on the Interstim because pressure increases the level of electrical current to an uncomfortable level. Has anyone else had this type of pain? What have you done to treat it? Kay

No direct trauma to the coccyx. Pain is very deep and not the “on the bone, bruised” sensation typical of ligamentous pull that often hurts the spinous processes, if you follow my description. The pain is slightly lateral to the coccyx bilaterally but definitely ligamentous; it is also tighter and more painful on one side. The patient places her thumbs on her pubic rami and I placed my thumbs on her thumbs to rock laterally to palpate the motion of the pubic symphysis and it moves very well. Tried applying ultrasound directly to the coccyx to calm down the “bruising/inflammation” and get ahead of the daily insult caused by sitting all day at work. I did some of the ham-handed “hook the thumb under the ishio-coccygeal ligament and stretch to the limit of my thumb tolerance” therapy learned from was it Logan Basic or SOT? Yes, I’m adjusting the pelvis and she adjusts easily. No, I have not used frequency specific micro-current. No, I have not used Apex Neurodynamic get with the 21st Century or be left in the dustbin of history supplements. Any ideas? Also, does anyone know of a source for a seat cushion with a coccyx cutout? Thanks in advance, E. Abrahamson, D.C. Guest guest
internal procedure works wonders, if ext stuff doesn't cut it the internal procedure is also diagnostic, if the patient is tender in the anterior area of the coccyx, it usually means that the procedure is likely to help. If she is not responding to anything, consider dynamic xray to rule out hypermobile or subluxed coccyx, good paper, and good description at www. coccyx.org Marc links to my first two articles on coccyx manip, below The Coccyx Feb 12.04 http://www.chiroweb.com/archives/22/04/10.html Coccyx revisited, ext and internal techniques from Feb 2010 http://www.dynamicchiropractic.com/mpacms/dc/article.php?id=54513 -- Marc Heller, DC mheller@... www.MarcHellerDC.com
