Guest guest
Ok.. I'm going to try this again. I've gained 20 pounds in the last 3 years and I MUST lose some weight. I'm 52 this week. Part of it is menopause, but mostly it's my sweet tooth and lack of willpower. Where will I find time to exercise? Shop? Cook? It's depressing... One son got married, one bought a house, one's wife is ready to deliver another grandchild...where does the time go? I'm having a difficult time lately just figuring out what in the heck to eat for breakfast? Help? ::::crying::: And, by the way, there is high fructose corn syrup in EVERYTHING! How do we avoid corn? I bought the book, sold the book on ebay, bought the book, sold the book on ebay.... now I'm going to buy it AGAIN... I think I'm losing it... my mind that is, not the weight. Guest guest
It could be worse, they could add corn syrup to hamburger... actually it's only in most sweetened processed foods. Avoid sodas and that's more than half the battle. I tried a diet soda today and it was yucky...I prefer plain sparkling water now. What do you usually eat? and how hard is it for you to avoid wheat? That's the first step. Gradual steps are good, get small changes into your routine, and they'll become easy, then take it to the next level. I usually have 2 eggs for breakfast, you can add some veggies or ezekiel toast with butter, ghee, or oil. For me, the eggs add up over the week and can get a little monotonous, but if I don't have some default like that to fall back on I end up skipping breakfast entirely. For more excitement, I'll make extra meat/veggies for dinner and eat that for breakfast, or have some sliced turkey or beef on hand. Spices help liven it up, and there are lots of beneficial spices you can throw on. Sounds like you may be trying to tackle it all at once. Take it one step at a time, and don't weigh yourself more than once or twice a month, you know more about your body than the scale does. Hope that helps... - Ok.. I'll try it ... again Ok.. Guest guest
Turkey sausage is another sort of standard breakfast item, but in an OK form instead of pork. I even found some precooked turkey sausage at Wal-Mart not too long ago. I bought some to try and have around for when I don't have time to fix something else. I will admit it is not as good as the uncooked turkey sausage I get. Don Ok.. I'll try it ... again Ok.. I'm going to try this again. You have to determine how important it is to you. It wasn't important to me until I almost died. Hopefully, you're smarter than I am. The earlier you decide to change the quicker you'll get healthy and the faster you'll lose weight. Once you do that, the rest is details. When your sweet tooth is calling, pop in a piece of protein. Eat a carrot. Munch on celery. Drink water. Take a walk. Whatever works for you. All of that is very easy to say but hard to do. That's why the first step is to decide to change. >And, by the way, there is high fructose corn syrup in EVERYTHING! How do we avoid corn?< If you stop eating everything, you'll probably lose weight--LOL. Seriously, you have to avoid processed foods and prepare your own. Look closely at some foods and you'll see that some use sugar instead. For instance, there is a lunch meat that I get that uses sugar instead of corn syrup because it's an old company with an established recipe. Mostly, you'll have to prepare your own foods at least until the industry catches up with us.
Guest guest
I found a good and easy way to start the day off right when I was staying at my married daughter's house last month. I bought a few bags of frozen kale and spinach. Every morning I would dump a third of a bag (if you're not used to that you could do much less!) into a pan with some olive oil or melted butter, cook it a little and then add either eggs or leftover meat (S & P). Almost-instant breakfast that won't start any cravings. It gives you a calm mind and body with which to plan for lunch. Every meal or snack that you avoid grains and other avoids will make it easier to keep on track. You can do it! Gretchen
Guest guest
> It could be worse, they could add corn syrup to hamburger... Thanks , for your ideas. Actually, I picked up some hummous at the store last week, and when I looked at the ingredients, there was that corn syrup! In hummous! I can pretty much survive on steak and salad happily. But breakfast just stumps me on this diet! Eggs get monotonous, and we can't have cereals if we want to lose weight. I haven't found anything really filling and good for me yet. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I work evening shift, 3 - 11:30, so I get up ravenous....
Guest guest
Well.. I had an exciting Monday! My daughter in law gave birth to an 8 pound 13 ounce son! She had him at home! It was a wonderful experience. I'm stoked... grandchild #2. So, to celebrate, I took a walk today.. I had to really muster up some will power, but it's the first walk.. and I did it. Granted, it was in the local cemetery :::chuckling::: but it was quiet and pretty and sunset was lovely. So.. I started. I also ate healthy today. I cooked a pot of Querves, which is Portugese Kale Soup. If you haven't tried it, let me offer the recipe. You need: 2 pounds of shank, short ribs, or stew beef large onion 2 cloves garlic large turnip 2 parsnips 1 large head Kale (curly or flat, doesn't matter) Brown meat in a bit of olive oil. Add 2 cloves garlic and one big onion, chopped. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Stew it until the meat is tender. Add a diced turnip and 2 sliced parsnips. (The regular recipe calls for potatoes, but the turnips/parsnips are yummy. Sometimes I make it with sweet potatoe for a different, but also good taste) Cook til veggies are tender, then add one head of Kale, chopped fine. I put it in the slicer of my food processor. Cover and stew until kale is limp. Add salt to taste. Eat it! It's better the 2d day after a night in the fridge. Good for packed lunches too! This recipe works great in a pressure cooker! I'm on my way...
Guest guest
In hummus? yuck! Why would they put it in there? I don't know how many times I bring something home from the store to discover something like that in the ingredients. I read the ingredients at the store, but I still don't catch everything. My son's allergic to milk, and I can't have gluten, so I should be more adept at reading ingredients by now, but I'm not, they remind me of word searches from elementary school...I was never very good at those either. I've been happy to see more red sauce without sugar or corn syrup, it used to be impossible to find any without it. On the non-secretor version of the diet, I've had to write off most prepackaged foods entirely, it seems like I can only trust what comes out of my kitchen. Which is a bummer because I don't have that much time to cook, or clean. So I make huge batches when I do cook, and pop the extra in the freezer. Ooh, if you can get ground lamb, it makes great 'sausages', just add a little rosemary, and fry it like a hamburger. Much more filling than turkey sausage, and more exciting than beef. Re: Ok..
