Guest guest
Kareen, How much of the glycerin did you use to sweeten a cup of green tea? I have been experimenting--but can't seem to get a sweet taste-- ...Wanda

Guest guest
Thanks, Kareen. I started with 1/4 tsp & had progressed to 1 tsp. Will try a little more. You may be right--it might be the way I'm brewing the tea. I had read to get full benefits, it should be brewed 5 min. Then last green tea said no more than two minutes. I bring water a boil, but let is sit a minute or two before adding tea. Since I drink 3 to 4 cups every day, I'd sure like to get it right-- so I can really enjoy the experience. ...Wanda
Guest guest
Coconut is not good for us O's. D vegetable glycerin Hello everyone. I had been reading about vegetable glycerin as a sweetener and picked some up from the HFS. But the one I got says it is 100% pure and is made predominately from coconut oil. That is a no no for Os isn't it? So is this vegetable glycerin also a no no? I had read that it doesn't increase insulin levels and does about the opposite that sugar does. Guest guest
According to Heidi, vegetable glycerine from coconut is fine for ALL types. Go here and do a search on glycerine for tons of info: http://www.dadamo.com/columns/begin/ask2.pl
Guest guest
<< http://www.dadamo.com/columns/begin/ask2.pl?20021213.txt >> Okay, I'm sold, and being lucky enough to live in a big city, Vitamin Cottage has the 16 oz vegetable glycerin for the same price as the web site listed, with no shipping charges. So, after I buy my bottle today, how do I go about substituting it for sugar in baked goods? These are still my downfall, but spelt cookies do so much less harm than wheat 'goodies' I have stopped beating myself up for baking and eating occasionally. I like the idea of sipping to stop cravings, may give that a try. Certainly faster and cooler than baking! Betsy
Guest guest
Here are a couple of recipes I found on the internet. They look like they could be easily modified with different nuts, seasonings, flavorings. I haven't tried either. It's very sweet and syrupy. These may give you an idea of amounts to use. I've seen calorie values from 0 to 60 cal per tablespoon. It is either converted to glucose, fat or may pass right through. I do not know what controls that. I'll assume my body will not let it pass right through, so consider the cals in my WW points system. Sweet potato casserole 1/4 cup water 2 tablespoons 100% pure vegetable glycerin 2 teaspoon (alcohol free) orange flavouring Ground cinnamon to taste 1/2 cup chopped or ground fresh walnuts 1/2 pound sweet potatoes, scrubbed, peeled and quartered Preheat oven to 175C. Place sweet potatoes in a greased 8-inch casserole. Put all other ingredients into a small bowl: mix. Pour mixture over sweet potatoes and bake 35 minutes, or until fork-tender. Vanilla Pecan Icecream 3 eggs 2 tablespoons softened butter (optional) 1/2 cup food-grade glycerine 2 cups (unsweetened) soy or almond milk 2 teaspoons vanilla 1/2 teaspoons sea salt (optional) 2 cups cream, or 2 extra cups of soy or almond milk to lower the fat content 1/2 cup pecans (roast lightly in oven and cool before using) > << http://www.dadamo.com/columns/begin/ask2.pl?20021213.txt >> > Okay, I'm sold, and being lucky enough to live in a big city, Vitamin Cottage > has the 16 oz vegetable glycerin for the same price as the web site listed, > with no shipping charges. Guest guest
The cheapest place I have found for vegetable glycerin is: http://www.azurestandard.com I buy it in the gal. size for $18.60. Don
Guest guest
Thanks Don! I paid $4 a piece for two little 4 oz bottles. Figured I wasn't going to be able to do too much, but it would help for my ginger soda and a couple teas that just need a little sweet added. Got the Sip Right tea and haven't tried it yet. Been too hot for hot tea, but I can't wait! > The cheapest place I have found for vegetable glycerin is: > http://www.azurestandard.com > > I buy it in the gal. size for $18.60. > > Don
Guest guest
I love the Type O Sip Right Tea. I bet it would be good iced too. Don Re: Vegetable glycerin Thanks Don! Guest guest
Still haven't tried it. If it would just get below 90 degrees as a high, I might feel like drinking something besides ice water. How would you describe the taste? > I love the Type O Sip Right Tea. I bet it would be good iced too. > > Don
