Guest guest
Hi Alysoun, Try pumpkin seeds, two tablespoons three times a day ( chew them well ). I had that problem and this resolved it. I also have to stay away from other grains especially in breads ( whole grain ). Best of luck. Louise Fiber Pills HiAll: I have a somewhat sensitive question. has worked wonders for my now-gone IBS but it has caused me to have a chronic case of gas and flatulence (yeesh, I hate to admit this!!!). Obviously, my G-I tract is still a bit messed up. I never had chronic gas before I started this diet. In any case, my naturopath suggested that I take fiber pills 2 in the morning, 2 at night with lots of water. I tried that and it caused me to have more and painful gas. So I gave them up. I still take peppermint oil pills (nature's way) and do use peppermint and/or licorice tea but it does not really seem to help. At present I put together a trail mix bag of fibrous fruits, prunes, figs, apricots, dates, and nuts. That and my banana form my breakfast. When I do have bread fiber (spelt or rice), my gas gets less but it is still there. I am trying to give up grains all together but my stomach is letting me know this is not what IT wants. In any case, I'd like to give up grains, I have a lot more energy when I do. Does anyone on this list take fiber pills that they would recommend that do not cause complications. I've read that fiber pills with psyllium are prone to cause gas, but then again I am not sure. I could try powders and pills till the cows come home but it would be expensive and a waste of my time and resources. So I'm throwing out to this list. If you have any suggestions, I'd be grateful for any. This is the last hurdle I have to jump to make the O-Type diet work for me. Thanks much for your help in advance. I value everyone's opinion very much,

I do not hate any food besides orange squash, yams, and sweet potatoes This really worked for you? Guest guest
Have you ever had pumpkin seeds? They are wonderful. If you like seeds/nuts you will like these, they don't taste like pumpkin. > Louis: > > Not to be a whiner, but did it have to be pumpkin seeds. > I do not hate any food besides orange squash, yams, and sweet potatoes > > This really worked for you? > > When I eats grains, my gas goes away!!! > > > > >Hi Alysoun, > >Try pumpkin seeds, two tablespoons three times a day ( chew them well > >). One suggestion when you're at the grocery, just move quickly to the next aisle and blame some old guy. That's what I do. The really tough one to work through is when I'm on the treadmill at the gym. I'm a little trapped there and most of the people are younger than me.
Guest guest
I am curious how long you have been on the diet? The reason I ask is I seem to remember going through a period of time, maybe somewhere in the range of 4-8 months into the diet, when I had some gas problems. I think ground flax seed, prunes and dried figs may have caused me trouble. The trouble went away with time, but my diet also continued to change over that period too. Now I seldom have any gas at all no matter what I eat within the diet guidelines. Don't bother with fiber pills. Use 1-2 tbls of ground flax seed soaked in a glass of water for 15 minutes or so. Tastes good and provides fiber and Omega-3 EFAs. Have you tried taking the type O probiotic? How about ginger tea? Both should help with the gas problem. Guest guest
Polyflora is Dr. D's probiotic. I am not sure why I went through the period of time when some of the foods gave me gas. I just know I did and now I rarely have any gas. It may have happened because my gut was healing up from decades of abuse from eating lots of wheat or it might have been some adjustment my body had to make to the new foods. Particurlarly the Deflect and Polyflora supplements you are starting should help your body with the healing and adjustments. Guest guest
I avoid fiber pills and psyllium seed products--they create gas in me, plus stomach cramping & the runs. I agree with what another person said--flax seeds are a better way to go. Just 2 T. twice a day should do it for you. I am about to embark on a Candida cleanse and my doctor suggested using bentonite clay mixed with flax in order to cleanse the bowels and remove dying yeast (I'll be using an anti- fungal yeast killer). I bring this up because yeast problems have plagued me and I find that my gas is much worse when my Candida is not kept in check. Got to keep those probiotics up, eat tons of garlic, and sooth the stomach and bowels with ginger. The thing that truly gets me is mixing proteins and fruit--I just cannot do it. Gas and the runs follow and that just saps energy and lets food sit in your digestive track too long. If I were you I would make you not to eat fruit too close to protein. Lastly, I find that baking soda in water really does help break up gas bubbles. I read about this on the side of the baking soda box about 15 years ago and I do find that it works. It makes me burp and breaks up gas bubbles. I find that I may need to do it 2-3 times in one hour to really break up the gas. I use about 1 t. per glass. This might help you too. Guest guest
Don Would like to try this as it would be really healthy...but...before I invest in more flax items the question is this. Does flax prepared this way taste anything like flax oil which I thoroughly detest? What time of day would be best for this? Thanks Toni > Don't bother with fiber pills. Guest guest
No, I don't think that soaked ground flax seed tastes like flax seed oil at all. The soaked grund flax seed has a nutty taste to it. Are you sure the flax oil you had was fresh? Certainly rancid flax oil would taste awful. I don't measure how much water I use with the ground flax seed, but I use enough to make it easy to drink it. I started doing this based on advice from Heidi, in which she suggested doing this first thing in the morning. She also suggested you can do a second time later in the day if desired or needed. I really don't worry about when I do it. Sometimes I do it first thing in the morning and sometimes I forget and do it later. Sometimes I do it twice or not at all. Enjoy, Don > Does flax prepared > this way taste anything like flax oil which I thoroughly detest? > What time of day would be best for this? > > > Don't bother with fiber pills. Guest guest
Alysoun, Yes it has to be Pumpkin seed. There are the only one that work for me.
