Are you sure you're a secretor? I had the same problem (especially spelt)

and that led me to the test where I found out I'm a non-secretor.

The spelt spaghetti noodles and macaroni noodles really did me in. Made me

really sick. You still sound like a non-secretor.

I am beginning to suspect that I may have trouble with some and/or

all of the BTD O secretor neutral grains. I would be interested in

other's comments that have come to the same conclusion. Are there

particular grains that seem to be more problematic then others? What

symptoms do you experience? Does the problem go away after a period

of time? Etc?

Let me give some background. I am an O- secretor. In the past I

suffered from long-term chronic sinusitis and went through a variety

of treatments over the years. I started the BTD a year ago and was

very hopeful that the diet would help solve my sinus problem, which

is my biggest problem. My sinuses have improved some, but they are

still not normal. I still frequently have congestion trouble and

thick mucus.

Heidi has said several times in her column that consumption of any

amount of grains can cause some Os sinus trouble. The past few months

I have tried to cut back on grains and usually do well at that when I

am not taking care of my 2 sons every other week. However,

unfortunately when my sons are with me the grains seem to creep back

into the diet more often. I know I need to work on that. For

Example, 2 nights ago I had 2 pieces of Ezekiel bread, yesterday

morning I had 1 piece of spelt bread, and last night I had some whole

spelt spaghetti with dinner. I noticed the dinner set heavily on my

stomach. The day before my sinuses were quite good, but yesterday I

woke up somewhat congested and was that way all day and last night

after the spaghetti dinner I was really congested and therefore slept

very poorly. Therefore, I suspicion that grains may be my problem.

Thanks,

Don St.

Does even sprouted wheat cause you trouble?

Thanks,

Hi Don,

Yes even the sprouted Ezekiel Bread causes me problems--mine is inflamation

unlike your sinus. But it is still, I believe, an allergy to wheat. Even a

little spelt will cause major problems the next day. Best wishes.

The results from my secretor test said I was a secretor. I also

tested my 2 sons. We are all O- Secretors.

I asked if there is a possibility for a false negative or false

positive result and what the error rate is, but I haven't gotten an

answer yet.

I guess you could say I get inflamation too. However, my

inflammation appears to be isolated to my sinuses.

I have ordered the secretor test. I am O-. I really hope I am a secretor--would

prefer wheat allergies to being on the O nonsecretor diet. lol
