Guest guest
How do you make ground beef jerky? Meatballs Meatballs have been mentioned as a handy snack in the past. Does anyone want to tell me how to make them? I make ground beef jerky and my sons and I really enjoy it? I'm curious does making the meatballs take more or less time then making jerky? Do you think there is any benefit to one or the other? Don
Guest guest
Thanks. How do you cook them? Is it in the oven or on the stove top? Do you just use a little olive oil to coat the pan? Guest guest
Don, making meatballs is easy. Do you make meatloaf? It is very similar, only you form the meat into round balls and cook. I prefer to cook them in the oven, 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. No added oil in the pan, no standing over the stove to turn them. 1 lb. of ground beef 1 egg 1/2 c. Ezekial bread crumbs ( one slice usually works 1/2 to 1 cup chopped onion 1- 2 garlic cloves - crushed salt to taste + seasonings to taste (nutmeg, savory, cayenne, oregano, etc.) For a looser, less portable meatball I often use (they break apart easier, but taste great) 1 lb. of ground beef 1/2 to 1 cup salsa to moisten (drain some of the liquid off) garlic to taste Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I think I have the general idea now and can start experimenting. By the way is there a simple to use meatball maker scoop or whatever to use to make it easier? The salsa meatballs sound great and my sons should like them too since they love salsa. I just placed another order for a bunch of grass fed beef. It should be here tomorrow so later in the week I should have some thawed and will be able to make a bunch of jerky and meatballs. I assume you can freeze the meatballs after you make them and then thaw as needed. I haven't made meatloaf in a while since this past year I have really tried to avoid many of the grains as much as possible. I think it is only the gluten containing grains that gives me sinus trouble but I really haven't done thorough testing. I know spelt and Ezekiel cause me trouble. I am not sure about oats. I think rice is OK is is the only grain I normally eat without concern. Don > Don, making meatballs is easy. Do you make meatloaf? Guest guest
Don, You could just as easily use rice flour. It wouldn't be exactly the same, but it would sub for the oat flour.
