My stomach is really hurting bad. I see the rheumatologist Thursday, we'll

see what he says. I also have crohns disease and ReA. I'll let you know what

Connie,

I hope not!! I've had such miserable luck with po meds. Indicin raised

my blood pressure (it never did come down) and gave me killer headaches.

Nothing else has touched the inflammation. It took me soooooooooooooo

long to get to a point of some mobility - I'd hate to loose it now. But I

project - hasn't happened yet. What do you take now?

on vioxx for awhile and it did cause me extreme intestinal distress. >

Hi Connie

I too was on Vioxx. I was put on it my doctor in Mississippi in 1999 as it

was not in Canada at that time. It worked well but did cause both gastric

upset and liver problems after a year and a half on it. Celebrex also

worked but I broke out in hives after the 2nd day. So I cannot take that

anymore

Hi

I am taking plain old Percocet. No doubt when I see the new doctor he will

try some old and some new drugs on me. I cannot take any NSAID's any more,

they did a very good job on my stomach. I have tried to go with the Motrin

available across the counter but even those cause problems after a couple of

days.

I too have never heard of Bextra. Hold On, I just checked Medline and found

Bextra. It is another cox2 inhibitor. Given my past experiences with

cox2's I do not think I will try it.

Dave, I am taking plain old norco(10mg. hydrocodone+ 325mg. of tylenol). I

just came home from the hospital today, went into the E.R. on Sunday night, a

six day hospitalization and every possible test you could imagine to find out

my gallbladder is severely inflamed and I HAVE to stop taking celebrex. I

started the celebrex(40mg.) and methotrexate (12.5mg.) every Wednesday night

4 weeks ago. My stomach started hurting after about a week, I have been on

many different N.S.A.I.D.S, so far no luck. I have crohns disease and was

just diagnosed with Reiter's 6 weeks ago. Do your doctors give you a hard

time about the percocet? I have to juggle doctors if I need to stay on the

norco. I know I'm dependent on the pain pills but I would rather deal with

addiction right now and not so much pain that I can't even climb stairs, and

have to use a walker to get around the house. Does any one else have problems

getting pain meds for their illnesses? I understand the doctor's point about

tolerance and addiction, but this is the only drug that keeps me functioning

at a semi-normal life. All feed back would be greatly appreciated because I

know it's coming from people that have to live with chronic pain too, I value

your tips and advice more than I do someone who doesn't know the frustration

that comes with these diseases. Thanks, Diane.

You mentioned that you broke out in hives on the Celebrex. Did the dr tell

you what that was from? I am alergic to sulpha (sp?) and had that type of

reaction (hives, etc.) from an antibiotic years ago. My dr said I could not

be on Celebrex because of the allergy. HOWEVER, if I wanted to try it, he

did say that there was a way to attempt to make yourself immune to a

substance, but he said it wasn't pleasant. We didn't go into it, but does

anyone know what he is referring to? Thanks. Kathy from WI

Hi Kathy

It was a reaction to Sulpha drugs. I remember taking a Sulpha drug many,

many, many years ago without any side effects but I must have developed one.

I think the doctor was telling you that they could introduce Celebrex more

gradually starting with a very small dose and building it up over time.

That does work sometimes but can definately be an itchy situation.
