Guest guest
Bob, you're talking about the worse it can get. Nerve pain in neck or other areas is pretty horrible. When I've had it as bad as you describe...my Rheumy gives me a Rx for PT...ultra sound deep heat, etc. Flexeril, Skelazin, (spelling ??) or Soma or any of the muscle relaxants can help. Some people on list have mentioned neurontin. I haven't had that drug yet...but it seems to work with some. Narcotics...you can try...but for those nerve type pains and spasms...even this doesn't work too well (at least for me). Try those heating pads that are made just for the neck area. You can wrap it around easily and it helps immobilize area. Also, we sure you use two good size pillows that support your back so you are not putting any strain on your neck muscles. In other words...kinda like lying down...but not flat on your back. Some have used just ice...and that seems to help. Ice/heat/ice/heat, alternating the two, is another system of relief. You have to try each to see what helps the most.

Guest guest
Bob, can you get a referral from your General Practioner to a pain clinic? When the pain gets out of hand to the point that you can not sleep, it usually is sometmes good idea to ask about having the pain treated instead of the cause. Sometimes you have to be assertive with the Doctor(s). What works for one of us may or may not work for you. Keep going back, ask for second opinions, ask for referrals to a pain clinic, make a perfect pest of yourself until you get relief.
Guest guest
Ahh Feldene, I remember it fondly too. It worked great. Unfortunately it was found to be very hard on the liver and kidneys and the Doctor took me off it.

Guest guest
Voltarin did nothing for me in any way--the old glass of water probably was more help in that it kept the toxins in the body down and kept the kidneys flushed. I see that someone else mentioned Feldene. It worked GREAT for me. I was on it when I had my cervical fusions and the nurses were amazed that I had no more pain than I did. I sort of thought the Feldene was the reason for that, but I never expressed it and really don't know that's what it was that worked do well for me then. I actually had to take a pain pill to get the nurses to leave me alone. They were concerned that I'd let the 'pain get ahead of me' and then I would have difficulty getting it under control again. I didn't need the pain meds in the hospital but on the way home, it was a different story. Good luck finding the right meds for her.It could be that Voltarin is one of those meds that has to sort of build up in your system before it works. I think that someone told me that 3 weeks is needed before you can really tell if it's going to work. The other med that worked well for me was Indocin. Lots of side effects therre for me, so it fell by the wayside, but if I really hurt, I scratch out the bottle for a brief hit. : )
Guest guest
Sometimes things are worth another try. If she decides to try again, be sure that she drinks at least a glass of water with each dose and preferably at least eats half a sandwich. I was in the pharmacy one day when a lady asked the pharmacist how much food was required when the meds indicated 'Take with food.'Half a sandwich was the answer. Hope she finds something soon that helps. I know its awful to let these things get ahead of you. That makes it that much more difficult to get it stopped after it gets a head start on ya. Guest guest
Bob, I agree with Matt about pain control. There are many medications that are available which are designed for situations like yours. Find a doctor or pain clinic (which are commonly run by Anesthesia Departments). Guest guest
I never tried Voltarin but the combination of Indocin 75mg(slow release)2x aday , 5mg predizone , 5-10 mg Oxicodone 3X aday , and Remicade Infusions every 7-8 weeks works well for me on the arthritis part of it ... Just some input from trying alot of things over the years ... and I can't miss any of it ... the key for me over the years was the indocine... slow release doesn't tear your stomach up ...
