Coryn,

What are you trying to accomplish in your diet? If you're jsut trying to

eat a good regular diet then you're doing great. ER4YT was the first book

and there have been a few adjustments I'm sure you may know about. In the

LR4YT book it suggests servings of major groups (like Meats, Fruits, Veggies

etc.)The suggestion for O's for eggs is 3 - 6 a week. The suggestion for

fruit is seven to 21 servings per week. Eating fruits that are neutral is

great, beneficial even better. I know Pineapple Juice is a Beneficial for O

Non-Secretors and I believe it's a neutral for Secretors so you should be

fine there. I drink a glass of organic fresh pressed pineapple juice each

day :-)

This is just a first e-mail. I'll put some more down in a bit.

By the way, I sent you my photos and description for your site tonight :-)

Subject: Eggs and menu questions

I am confused about eggs. I have been eating 2 a day, but after really

reading the ER4YT books, it says that I am not allowed that many. Same with

fruit...I have been eating a piece a day and also a glass of pineapple juice

and that is not allowed either. I would like to know what you all are

eating. Maybe you could send in some sample meal plans to give me some

ideas. I was reading the sample meal plans in the first ER4YT and even THOSE

menus don't follow the guidelines so I am all confused. They have 2 grains a

day and 2 fruits a day which is TOTALLY against the portion and times per

week guidelines. Thanks!

Hi Coryn - just make sure to eat 1 gr of protein per bodyweight every

day (from any of the beneficial/neutral sources) and the maximum amount

of green leafy veggies. Also about a tablespoon of fat per meal. After

that you can have a glass of pineapple juice (about 40 gr of carbs) -

you will need 6 oz of meat or 6 eggs to balance it out. Or your fruits

(27gr of carbs/each or so).

Should not worry about minor details like that.

Hope this helps.

The LR4YT book I have says 3-5 servings of fruit per week. I don't see 7-21

servings anywhere!! I want YOUR book!! LOL

OK I got my book out. You're saying it says 3 - 5 cups or pieces of fruit

per week for Type O Secretors and that is what is says. However, this is an

error correction. It actually should read servings per day rather than

week. So as a secretor, if you multiply the 3 - 5 by 7 days a week, it's 21

- 35 servings per week.

As a Non-secretor mine says 1 - 3 so weekly that is 7 - 21 servings :-)

See I made it even better for you :-)

Although my cravings for sweets are down, I find the pineapple juice is so

sweet and delicious when I want something sweet or when I am wanting a

snack, or if someone else around me is eating a (not good for me) dessert

and I don't want to be tempted. My ND put me on magnesium which is powdered

and to be mixed with water (yech) or juice, and the pineapple juice does

just the trick for the mag...covers the weird sweetish taste of the powder.

ly I was surprised at the high # of fruits that this diet recommends

for us. I got used to the US Gov't food pyramid saying 2 fruits per day.

I also have been eating more eggs than recommended as I use hard boiled eggs

as a quick snack in between meals when I think I need a protein. I remember

reading that the eggs are not as good a source of protein as eating a meat,

and that is why. My issue is when I run out of deli meat (roast beef) and

don't have any home cooked meat in the fridge for snacks.

I am not perfect on this diet yet, just avoiding the wheat and dairy...I see

a big change in how I feel. Also I note after eating wheat, the next day I

wake up with a puffy face, black circles under my eyes and flushing.

Try having pumpkin seeds or prunes around for a snack instead of

deli meat. They have some great different toasted ones at Whole

Foods from spicy to tamari to just toasted with salt.

The wheat hangover is a trip isn't it?!

Coryn,

I can't remember your weight. I know the LR4YT portion recommendations are

for 150lb folks, so if you weigh more than that the serving sizes would go

up. I don't think your portions are TOO far off, especially if you're

hitting the veggie recommendations at the high end, as well. I personally

would cut back to 1 egg per day (or 6 per week). That's the one area I would

cut back in. Mostly because eggs are only neutral, not beneficial. Fish

counts separately in the portions and is recommended anywhere from 3-7 times

per week depending on your secretor and Rh status, so every day sounds

appropriate. Based on your preferences, I wouldn't be surprised if you're a

non-secretor and/or Rh negative, both of which require significantly more

protein, both meat & fish, than secretor and/or Rh positive. I can't

remember your status on those either. One of the things I've come to

understand from Heidi who writes the On The Diet column at www.dadamo.com

about the portion recommendations is that they are ratios. For example, 4 oz

of meat or fish with 1 cup of green leafy vegetables. Darn, I can't remember

if that's what the ratio was, and I tried looking it up on Heidi's column

but am not finding it right off the bat. Anyway, I think this is the minimum

.. . . at least 1 cup of veggies per 4 oz of meat. I find that when I'm

keeping up with my veggies, I am not as hungry for SO MUCH meat. I think

considering the general guidelines of the O diet also provides perspective

on whether it's OK to increase on one end or the other for each food

category. I.e.:

meat: eat 1-2x/day

fish: eat every day to every other day

eggs: eat one every day to every other day

milk/yogurt/cheese: it says ok to have zero, so basically eliminate (DON'T

eat more than recommended)

beans: secretors can go down to 1 serving per week, nonnies 0, so basically

eliminate (DON'T eat more than recommended)

nuts & seeds: eat every 2-3 days (since nonnies should eat every day, I see

this as an area that can be increased)

grains: similar to beans, I would NOT go over the top rec's and would

eliminate

veggies: beneficials are UNLIMITED so eat LOTS, neutrals are 2-5 PER DAY for

secretors so again, eat LOTS

I think fruits could be increased slightly too since 3-5 per day are allowed

for secretors.

and oils are 4-8 times per week for secretors, so that's at least 1/2T per

day and 1T per day is definitely OK.

so I would definitely find out my secretor status if you don't know it yet.

and increase the veggie and water intake. do you eat walnuts and pumpkin

seeds? those are great beneficial snacks as an alternative to so many eggs.

I think those three things will enable you to keep your meat intake closer

to Dr. D's recommendations . . . and if you find even with having LOTS of

veggies and water and at least the minimum nuts and fruits that you want

more protein, I'd say, go for it. fat and meat do not cause heart disease in

O's . . . . grains and perhaps lack of exercise do!

best wishes, Coryn,

ita

PS. I haven't sent along a food plan because mine are not compliant with the

recommendations. I too eat " too much " meat and nuts and not enough veggies!

;-) Heidi does have some good menu recommendations / food plans for what she

does on her column if you can find them.

PPS. I also find if I eat meat and veggies for breakfast I don't need as

much later in the day.
